This assertion from a primary source indicates that American forces intervened in an attempt to quell terrorist movement and ultimately reduce the number of potential casualties. Consequentially, the inferred notion that terrorist groups are purely interested in seeking unwarranted revenge against western civilisation, an idea that US forces feel the need to suppress, becomes evident. Additionally, this statement is representative of the pro-war American government that unleashed themselves upon Iraq in 2001. Well before the war, in the 1970s and 1980s, Iraq was a wealthy nation despite their 8 year long war with Iran; however, a steady decline was recorded as this war began. But America reinforced the country with very public financial and political support which eventually led to a steady deterioration. The invasion of Iraq by American forces shortly after the 9/11 tragedy was an attempt to rid the country of their tyrannical leader, Saddam Hussein in an attempt to better the country. His statement denotes the belief that the US led invasion ultimately destroyed the sanctity of Iraq and overall safety that Saddam Hussein had instilled into his country. Evidently, the American intervention led to a unanimous fear among Iraqi citizens in the midst of a collapse of social stability, it is in this reason that most Iraqi citizens far preferred life under the rule of Hussein.
