Recommended: Papillomavirus parvovirus

There are numerous of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that are spread across the United States yearly. According to the Office on Women’s Health, In the United States about 19 million new infections are occurred each year that affects men and women of all backgrounds and economic levels. Though there’s a number of many different STIs, human papillomavirus (HPV) is a most common STI that can develop into 40 different types which can affect the genital area of men and women (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Mandating the HPV vaccine for the chance of eliminating cervical cancer is a great idea, however it is not sufficient enough to be positioned as a necessity that would violate individuals’ autonomy as well as penetrating the cost of the vaccination on individuals. Ethics in vaccines can be very delicate being that it often violates one right and/or interfere with philosophical/religious beliefs. There’s has been great controversy in regards to mandating the HPV vaccine and in the midst presenting ethical concerns.
According to Family Research Council, “Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that can cause abnormal tissue growth on different cell surfaces in and on the human body” (Gaul, 2014). HPV is passed alone during sexual contact with direct skin to skin contact and can often have little to no symptoms of infection at all which is why many individuals do not know that they have the disease. This can cause warts that will appear on the outer skin layers of the body or on mucus covered surfaces that are found in the throat and genitals. To conclude, I think mandating the HPV vaccine is not a good idea, but however I do recommend the vaccine for girls of age. There are a lot of impediments if the vaccine was to be mandated in order to attend school, being that there are individuals who are against certain vaccines. A member of a school board stated that she is all for girls to getting the vaccine because it will protect them from a devastating disease, but if its mandatory then you have to get into do you start to keep children out of school so the legal implications is what I’m a little uncomfortable with (Gaston, 2007). The ethical implications is that it will undermine the abstinence-based prevention message, interfere with one’s principle autonomy, religious values and beliefs, distributive justice matters and many implications on cost.
