The Pros And Cons Of Evolution

Evolution in general is a long time discussed topic, in which opinions vary tremendously. Although there are many different opinions and statements there are facts in place that have shown that evolution of animals is indeed true. Evolution is “the change in a line of decent” (Starr, Evers, Starr, p.192). There are many forms of evolution but I am focused on the evolution of many different animals, from animals adapting to their environment/ climate to the different theories of their evolution.
Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was a naturalist and geologist, he is widely known for his evolutionary theory. “Darwin's general theory presumes the development of life from non-life and stresses a purely naturalistic (undirected) "descent with modification". That is, complex creatures evolve from more simplistic ancestors naturally over time. In a nutshell, as random genetic mutations occur within an organism's genetic code, the beneficial mutations are preserved because they aid survival -- a process known as "natural selection." These beneficial mutations are passed on to the next generation. Over time, beneficial mutations accumulate and the result is an entirely different organism (not just a variation of the original, but an entirely different creature)” (Darwin’s Theory of Evolution). The term Darwinism is “based upon the six key observations by Darwin and the inferences he drew from them.
1. That species have great fertility, and produce more offspring than can grow to adulthood in any given environment.
2. That after an initial increase, species populations remain roughly the same size with only modest fluctuations in numbers.
3. That food sources have definite limits but are mostly constant.
4. That, due to the three observations ...

...seal pups are leaner and slimmer because their prey are migrating into colder water. Also due to global warming and the high carbon dioxide rate with the air, plants are absorbing the toxin and using it as a defense against herbivory. There are caterpillars that turn into moths that eat the plants as a food source, in turn “a University of Rhode Island student found evidence that suggests some songbirds may avoid eating insects that consume leaves exposed to high levels of carbon dioxide” (climateark.org). In terms of breeding it is documented that Canadian red squirrels are breeding 18 days earlier, tree swallows are laying their eggs 9 days earlier, some American flowers are blooming earlier and also because of the rising temperature it has been documented that it influences the sex of the Hawkbill turtle, hatchlings have been with a majority of females to males.
