It is no secret that a great amount of teenagers drink. Some for fun or maybe even from peer pressure. It is true that we cannot stop them, but does that mean we should make it legal? agreed and on July 17, 1984, he signed into law the Uniform Drinking Age Act mandating all states to adopt 21 as the legal drinking age within five years. By 1988, all states had set 21 as the minimum drinking age. He changed the law for a very specific purpose; to prohibit drinking to those under the age of 21. Survivors of life and death situations should not feel guilt is that they did nothing to cause the situation. The guilt is illogical. In the editorial article by Nancy Sherman,”The Morals of Survivors Guilt”, about how traumatic events can change one’s life drastically and that survivors guilt is used to express these feelings. The text states, “We often take responsibility in a way that goes beyond what we can reasonably be held responsible for.”(Paragraph 5, “The Moral of Survivors Guilt”) This shows that survivors shouldn’t feel the guilt but they do because it’s connected to their feelings which can cause one to feel guilty, sad, or even happy. Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous. Those who drink and drive tend to have an increased risk of car accidents, highway injuries, and vehicular fatalities. However, there are countless ways to prevent drunk driving. Professor David J. Hanson at the sociology department at the State University of New York states that “designated drivers have saved nearly 50,000 lives and spared many more thousands of people from suffering injury from drunk driving. Survivor guilt is when people who survive an event like 9/11 or the holocaust, where other people died, feel guilty, even though they had no control over what was happening. Many people argue about if people should or should not feel survivor guilt. Some people believe survivors of life threatening situations should feel survivor guilt. Others feel they should not. Survivors of life and death situations should feel survivor guilt.
