Sports have been the center of attention in schools for a long time, and their popularity keeps growing. Although people use after school athletics as a way to get exercise; they are actually bringing down test scores. Therefore, schools should not keep after school sports because they cost enormous amounts of money, students will get better grades, and kids and will not be distracted from school. A major problem with after school sports is their immense price, this is why many districts are cutting them. According to an article by Amanda Ripley “Maintaining the fields can cost $20,000 a year” (10). Also new bleachers for spectators to sit on can cost schools $500,000 to replace (Ripley, 10). Jason Taylor, Tim Tebow, Maria Sharapova, and Serena and Venus Williams are all homeschooled students who became professional athletes. Homeschool students, as well as public school students, are both taking the same subjects throughout their high school career. Sports are a common past time that students should be able to compete in everywhere. Should homeschool students be allowed to participate in public school sports? Homeschooled students should be able to participate in public school sports because athletes have no exposure from colleges, not enough participants for their own leagues, and homeschool parents pay taxes for public schools.
Over the course of time, schools have invested all their finances on sports like football. Primarily, the sport had initiated as a form of recreational fun, but therefore lead into a trend. This popular trend later spread into competitiveness and in some schools, even idolized. At Premont High School, a small school in Texas, it was threatening to be shut down for the neglection of academics and a misuse of finance. All money funded was focused on being used to support all sports and the money raised, was a large amount of money. The solution was to suspend all sports and with that, changes were made. Teachers were retrained, the curriculum was raised to the appropriate standard, and too much avail, academics improved significantly. According to the article, when sports have been dominating, only 50 percent of the students were passing their classes. After changes were made, 80 percent were now passing. The author argues that with the suspension of sports, academics would be at a higher level than they are. With this argument, I agree with Ripley’s motion to cancel all sports. To many students, such as myself, it may seem irrational and absurd at first, but realistically it is a reasonable solution. Tons of money is being spent primarily to a sport and most times, aren't even at a winning season. Sports should not the prime focus. Schools are not instituted to emphasis on sports
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" (Nelson Mandella). School is what is developing our future generation, so why should it be put aside by sports? Most kids who are white won't make it to any major sport anyways. School should be number one priority, nothing not even sports should get in the way of that. If an athlete can't find a way to do both then they shouldn't play. And besides some athletes don't even want to do their sport they are it being pushed by their parents. This is why it can't be replaced by things like basketball, football, and soccer.
My first reason is schools should not get rid of sports because private and club sports are too expensive for most families. Some people don’t know why schools are trying to drop interscholastic sports. Some schools are trying to get rid of the sports that are going on for the district because of the cost to cover the injuries for the players or the cost of the equipment. Although people say that the equipment for school events like football pads, football cleats and basketball things. If the price goes down on the equipment schools would probably buy a lot of the equipment so they don’t have to buy it so they have extra material for events if something breaks or gets ruined. Among the cost of the equipment school districts would possibly use the same equipment.
High School sports are not beneficial because they have more cons than pros. There are reasons like the pressure from the parents is too much and that could lead to stress, also the equipment is based off college sports and are not as fit for younger bodies of the high school students. On the plus side they have shown to be good for education. People who play high school sports have high grades but that doesn’t mean that students who don’t play sports can’t have high grades also.
After reading " The Case Against High School Sports" by Amanda Ripley started to make me think. There were many strong points about how the priorities of the sports are beginning to be more important to students than their education. Another great point was that the financing and budgeting is unfairly distributed throughout school districts and is spent more on athletics and clubs and not enough on classes. And I Believe that schools should put certain restrictions on the spending and promoting or in school sports and clubs because of the major drop in national and world comparisons.
I believe that in middle school, it is a necessity for kids to be involved in extracurricular sports to learn knew skills that they can apply on and off the field. Due to budget cuts, more and more schools have had to cut extracurricular sports. I know that I want sports to come back and so do many kids in middle school. Sports will benefit your health and many other aspects that help you become successful.
When applying to University there are multiple steps which lead to many frustrations and stress. Everyone from the top student to the student who is forced to apply, deals with these frustrations. In my experience, I threw things, abused my computer, and my eyes may have watered from the frustrations of course. Not only is the process hard, filling in every form, obtaining letter of recommendation, but the four years that you spent trying to come up with the information you are providing was hard.

It was a great game for those rooting for Aledo High because they won the game 91 – 0. At the time these two teams played, ESPN of Dallas/Fort Worth had Aledo ranked number one in the state in class 4A high school football. With a massacre like that, one may ask if the Western Hills Football team knew why they had lost so badly.
