The Civil Rights Act was passed in July 2, 1964 in which prohibited discrimination based on race, religion, color, and sex. It implied equal access to public places and desegregation within schools. It was known to be one of the most “sweeping civil rights legislation since reconstruction” according to ourdocuments.gov. The movement was incredibly eye opening and influenced other minority groups that faced discrimination to take a stand and fight for the rights they were denied. The Constitutional rights that were intended to protect African Americans weren't the slightest bit implied in the South.
