Many people can face injustice in their community from how they are raised and social bias. An injustice is something that many people view as wrong or unjustified. In the pearl by john Steinbeck and the giver by Lois lowry, the main characters Jonas in the giver and kino in the pearl both face injustice in their community. Kino and his family face many injustices from the community. When kino went to the doctor he said “Have I nothing better to do than cure insect bites for ‘little Indians’? I am a doctor, not a veterinary .” (Steinbeck 11) This shows the doctor see them as animals and not worth his time. This is because they are a different race and social class than him. As a result, Kino is faced with this injustice they put on him.
Both Harper Lee and Rebecca Skloot reveal that innocent people suffer from the injustice society inflicts upon them. Injustice is seen in many forms and affects people in their own ways, each way just as bad. Malala Yousafzai knows this first hand, as she experienced it with a shot to the head. To conclude, the discrimination around people is what makes these injustices possible.

It could take place yesterday, today, or tomorrow, but the point is that one cannot revert the world to one way of thinking, that is why greed and prejudice still exist. In the novel, ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee some characters suffer in the hands of justice and fairness more than others. Many characters in the novel are discriminated against such as Calpurnia, Dolphus Raymond, Helen Robinson, Burris Ewell and more. However I will be focusing on the discrimination against Tom Robinson for his race, Walter Cunningham for his low socioeconomic status and Boo Radley for the rumors and supposed mental instability he holds. I chose those three because they are the most prominent and I will discuss how the discrimination against the characters therefore leads to their injustice or unfairness.
In The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, evil transforms certain humble citizens into envious savages. Evil was exhibited by the doctor who refused to treat Coyotito because his parents had no money. When the doctor heard of Kino and Juana's fortune in finding "the pearl of the world" (722), he boasted that they were patients of his while thinking of a better life for himself in Paris. Coyotito was healed when the doctor finally came to their straw hut. He deceived Kino by giving the baby a white powder that made him go into convulsions. An hour later he came and gave Coyotito the remedy and immediately wanted to know when he was getting paid. The evil in the pearl had reached the heart of the doctor. The pearl's evil did not restrict itself to infecting Kino's peers; it also affected Kino himself. He wanted to sell the pearl and use the money to better his family's standard of living. He had dreams and goals that all depended on the pearl.
Injustice is a theme that reigns in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Injustice is evident in many aspects of life. The trials the characters in the book face are very different from most of the situations people endure right now. A few of the trials faced in the story are racism, and judgment. The theme of injustice is displayed in the judgment of Arthur Radley, in Tom Robison's trial, and Jem and Scout's life-threatening encounter.
In the word today, many people have either been a victim, bystander, or perpetrator of discrimination. They overcame many adversities together and alone, making them more potent. When an individual encounters extreme discrimination, then they will be forced to overcome revolting judgement from society because, if they do not, they will never be strong in identity.
Life is not always fair for everyone. People can have advantages and opportunities immediately waiting for them, while others can have bad luck and almost no support. Some people have their fate determined simply by their: appearance, ethnicity, and how they are living their lives now, rather than how they want to live in the future. Social inequality can influence the opportunities a person has to achieve an objective in life or in a story. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, protagonist Scout observes the inevitable effects that social inequality has on lives through the members of her community.
Injustice is something people struggle with in today’s society. We are living in a world where we are harshly judged for every move we make, for our opinions, for who we are, for our identity. So many individuals constantly feel lonely, insecure, and outcasted. They feel the need to hide, and struggle to embrace their differences because they’re ashamed society would place a blanket statement of judgement over their head. To Kill A Mockingbird has a lot to say about justice and the lack thereof. Tom Robinson is an honest, noble man who has the misfortune of being born black in Alabama. The discovery of the "magnificent" pearl changed the lives of Kino and Juana severely because they were not used to this kind of wealth. Before they found the pearl, Kino and Juana lived a happy, humble and quiet life. "Kino heard the little splash of the morning waves on the beach. It was very good - Kino closed his eyes again to listen to his music."(Pg. 1-2) Kino loved the simple life; nevertheless whenever things were beginning to look good and simple something went wrong.

It is a word that is thrown around a lot by people who think that they are being unfairly mistreated. One common theme seen throughout To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is injustice. This is shown through Tom Robinson's unfair trial, Bob Ewell trying to kill Jem, and also the reactions of the Finches neighborhood for the Finches sticking up for the black folks in the area.
