The first scene many might notice, is that the book starts out as Ponyboy walking home by himself unlike the movie, along with the part of being attacked by the Socs in the first part of the book. This scene is one of the only scenes that happens in the book and not the movie. In the movie, it starts out with the greasers at the gas station Another part that is uniquely in the book, is the part where Johnny and Ponyboy pretend to be playing soldier in Windrixville so they do not get caught. In addition to those parts, there is one substantial subplot that does not take place in the movie, and that is Sodapop’s girlfriend. In the book, Sodapop has a girlfriend who had moved to florida because she was pregnant and not allowed to marry Soda, however, Sandy did not like Sodapop they way he thought she did."When Sandy went to Florida… it wasn't Soda, Ponyboy. He told me he loved her, but I guess she didn't love him the way he thought she did, because it wasn't him." (Hinton 165). Unfortunately, another story of him did not prevail, the story of his favored pet horse, Mickey Mouse. In the book, Soda was was mentioned far more than any other characters in the story, be that as it may, the movie failed to mention him as the book did, leaving him in the dust with the other characters. Poney does not want to be in a boys home, due to his parents death all three boys should be in a boys home. He mentions both in the book and the movie he has to be careful with getting into huge trouble because if the cops found him they would put him in a boys home since he has no parent. Cherry is very kind hearted in both the movies she tells Ponyboy about how you can’t assume if one person from this group is like that, then that must mean everyone else there is the same. Which is better: book or movie? The age-old debate. But which is better? S.E Hinton's, 'The Outsiders' book is far superior to Francis F. Coppola's motion-picture film portrayal of the book in 1983. You might remember it from the popular quote, "Stay Gold". Today it is mostly read in middle school classrooms. The Outsiders was published by S.E Hinton in 1967 when she was a teenager. The main focus throughout the story is the feud between two gangs: The Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. "We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder too". The whole book is written in Ponyboy Curtis's point of view. So, we are hearing the story through a Greaser's perspective. It is often difficult to make a connection with a character over the big screen. You miss out on scenes that did not make it into the movie, some that were are not emphasized like they should have been, and some characters were portrayed wrongly.
The movie, The Outsiders, starts with the Curtis parents on their weekly, Saturday evening drive to the baking store to buy some ingredients for their boys’ favorite Sunday morning, breakfast treat: chocolate cake. Ponyboy is held under the water of a fountain and to save his friend, uncharacteristically, Johnny stabs the leader, Bob, with a knife. Bob ultimately ends up dying right there next to the fountain. To escape the police, they run away to an old abandoned church with the help from Dally, another in their gang. They spend days there with only baloney, cards, and a copy of Gone with the Wind. Ponyboy says, “The next four days were the longest days of my life” (75). They both had to sleep on the hard, stone floor (67) with no blankets. When they ran away, it insists that they believed they had no choice and soon realized what a ghastly experience it would be. This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws.
The Outsiders is a book about Greasers And Socs. The Greasers are the poor east side kids they would wear their hair long and greasy and they will dress in blue jeans, T-shirts, or wear they shirttails out and wear a leather jacket and tennis shoes or boots. The Socs are the rich west side kids that worn nice clothes, drove nice cars, and had all the pretty lady’s. They both was gangs in Oklahoma. The Socs they would jump Greasers, wreck houses, and throw beer blasts for kicks.

The movie shows fans a visual representation of the book, The Outsiders. The Outsiders book is different from the movie because the book shows Ponyboy’s thoughts, the movie doesn’t show much of what happens to Ponyboy after Dally’s death, and doesn’t show movie-watchers much of Johnny’s backstory.
The most interesting event was when Johnny and Ponyboy were trying to save the little children from the fire. There was a lot of action and showed the courage in the boys. This event marks what a true hero Johnny and Ponyboy are.
