“Studies of curfews in Tulsa, Oklahoma, showed that arrests rose despite the curfew law.” In the novel The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, and the article “ Are Public Curfews Fair?” a debate is formed over whether public curfews should be made. This being for real life and characters in the book. In The Outsiders, there is a gang of teen boys who always get into trouble in their society. In the article, research is shown as to whether public curfews should be made for teens around the globe. Although it may seem that public curfews are necessary for characters in the novel The Outsiders, there are multiple, stronger reasons why they are not. Annually during the argument, the idea of freedom is represented. Even if the boys in the novel did have a public curfew, they are still able to do whatever they please. “Curfews don’t take away teens’ rights.” Luckily, having a certain time to be home by doesn’t take away your ability to do something. You are still able to do the things you enjoy. On the contrary, a curfew wouldn’t keep the boys from getting into trouble and mischief. “Hey, Darry I just robbed a bank. I need your help.” Defiantly, the boys will probably disobey the rules and go on with whatever they wanted to do to entertain themselves. Because of a made curfew, it could help parents gain control of their child. “ Public Curfews give parents some extra help.” This could assist parents in raising their kids that they want to. Also, it would help them set the ground and rules for the household. However, parents could possibly want to choose the time their adolescent comes home. “ My mom don’t care where I am.” Some parents want to set their own limits for their teenager.
