Choices and Consequences-The Outsiders The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a late 60’s novel about a young 14 year old kid named Ponyboy. He is part of a hood group on the eastside of town called the greasers that to him are closer than family. Each and every person within the gang looks out for each other and would do anything for them, but sometimes these things they would do for each other without second thoughts have jurrasic effects that nobody could see coming in the future. This event that nobody could see coming, all started the day after Johnny had gotten badly beaten up by their rival gang the Soc’s. Pony says that Johnny looked so bad that day he was unrecognizable. But they can’t stay there for long because one of Pony’s smokes burned down the church as a fatal piece of wood comes down and strikes johnny as he, dallas, and pony try to go into the church to save the little innocent kids trapped inside. But as a result of their heroic actions adding to johnny’s death pony and dallas are put in the hospital for their burns aswell. Now once johnny and pony get their names cleared the troubling feeling of reality is setting in to everybody in the group that johnny is now dead. Some of the group like Dallas and Pony are taking his death harder than than anybody else and this is about to lead to another hardship in the group. Dallas is depressed and is taking it out on others and at this point he feels he has no reason to live . So the night of the rumble he pulls out a gun on the cops that wasnt loaded and Dallas got shot dead before he hit the ground . As you can see the result of the one action of johnny killing BOb in self defence can lead to a chain of events that led this group to its ultimate breaking point .So by one person making a choice that they may think is right at the time that might not of needed to be done could have possibly save lives in this example. Hopefully now you can see that every choice you make has consequences whether they could
