A comparison can be made to show the advantages and disadvantages using two different mediums of The Outsiders. The novel and the movie had many things in common. The movie is a visual so after reading the book and actually seeing those things in the book actually happen, (like Dally getting shot) it was more emotional. In the book, there was not very much expression. The movie really brought it to life with the actors emotion. The movie felt more powerful because you can see the book really happening. We got attached to the characters from reading the book, so when we see the visual of the book it was more heartbreaking. The Outsiders and The Wednesday Wars deal with misunderstandings among young people in the 1960’s and show how people can form friendships despite their differences. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about two rival gangs, the Greasers and Socs. Ponyboy Curtis and some Greasers befriend Cherry Valance, a Soc. She spies on the Socs and helps out the Greasers. Ponyboy and his friend, Johnny Cade, become involved with the killing of a Soc, so they run away to an abandoned church. When the church catches on fire, Ponyboy, Johnny, and their friend Dallas Winston, save a few children who were trapped in the burning building. Johnny gets injured during the process and later dies. Overall, the movie and book have many differences and similarities, some more important than others. The story still is clear without many scenes from the book, but the movie would have more thought in it.
When you read a book and then go to watch the movie you know that the book and the movie are usually different. In this case it was not really true. There were many things that were the same about the movie and book but I choose the main things that needed to be told. First off, True Son believes that he isn’t white and never will be. This is a very important part of the story so they had to include it in both because it shows how True Son changes throughout the story.
Personally I like the movie more than the book. It just gives more of the feeling that you are actually there in the story in the movie. The movie shows the faces they make how they react to something.It just planly better than the book verzion because the book verzion may say the facecial expresions, but you can’t see them like you can in the movie. The theme in the book and the theme in the movie differ greatly. The book was focused on sin and redemption whereas the movie was about father-son relationships. The movie played on the drama whereas the book played on the revenge. These differences change the message in the movie. They also change how we view the characters. I believe that these changes were made to the movie to help add a more relatable aspect. Audiences today are not going to want to watch a heavily religious movie but they definitely will watch father-son drama. These changes may have changed the original message of the novel but it made the movie more relatable and therefore more enjoyable for the viewers.

In The Outsiders there are many similarities and differences with the movie and the book. There are also many different themes that happen in the book and movie as well.

Featuring Tom Cruise and many other young stars, the movie soon became a classic too. Both the movie and the novel are based on Ponyboy Curtis, a greaser from Tulsa, Oklahoma, but there are some major differences between the book and the movie. Even the main characters are very different from the original book. So, how are the novel and movie similar and different and how does that affect the audience's experience?

The Outsiders is about the life of a 14-year-old boy. The book tells the story of Ponyboy “Curtis” and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. Ponyboy and his two brothers, Darrel (Darry), who is 20, and Sodapop, who is 16, have recently lost their parents in an automobile accident. Pony and Soda are allowed to stay under Darry's guardianship as long as they all behave themselves. The boys are greasers, a class term that refers to the young men on the East Side, the poor side of town. The greasers' rivals are the Socs, short for Socials, who are the "West-side rich kids."
Book or movie? This seems to be a pretty common debate, especially seeing there are so many differences between the two.
