Over the course of time, the idea that surrounds popular culture is mainly the fullness of ideas, perspectives and attitudes. Also within the mainstream of a given culture there are other phenomena’s such as images, videos and outlooks that shape the idea of how public relations is looked upon in the society today (Street 2004). In the past decade or two public relations has been portrayed through different texts, images, movies, shows and ideas that provide a critical analysis of how it is looked upon as a profession (Rhodes and Westwood 2008, 2]). In popular culture public relations is often depicted as being negative and devious (Morris, Goldsworthy and Corporation 2008). In this comedy drama movie Nick Naylor is the chief spokesman of the Academy of Tobacco Studies, which is a tobacco industry-lobbying firm. His main aim as a Lobbyist for the firm is to promote the benefits of cigarette, but by doing his job he is portraying a very bad message towards the public about public relations as a practice. The reason for this is that he clearly has no limits to his unethical behaviour and takes pride in his ability to ignore moral values. He states his arrogance as moral flexibility and the ability to spin the truth into arguments that he never seems wrong. He is also portrayed to choose his preferences, which are freedom, and according to his character it does not matter if something is right as long as he proves the other thing wrong. Moreover in this movie there is a female journalist, Heather Holloway who is writing a story on Nick Naylor and to know more about him she goes to such an extent that she sleeps with him multiple times. Furthermore just to get to him and his character she publishes an article on The Washington probe enlightening all his secrets. The publishing of off record and sustainable information is prevalent not only in the movie but also in the real world. Therefore looking at these examples from this movie most of the people get a negative image of public relations. The Impact of such acts in the television series and movies demoralize people to pursue PR as a career.
