Controversies about violent video games raise eyebrows about whether the content of some video games change the behavior and attitudes of children and young adults. Many argue that video games are harmful to youth, prompting an effort to subject video games to government oversight and restrictions. However, violent video games come with many proven benefits including social skills with fellow players as well as being a major entertainment and pick-me-up factors in many teenagers ' lives. Results of multiple scientific studies attempt to link video games to violence and aggression, but at the same time the positive benefits were also very apparent. Despite multiple studies and thorough investigations, a correlations between such games and violence in teenagers has not been found. In other words, "A causal link between violent video games and violent behavior has not been proven. Many studies suffer from design flaws and use unreliable measures of violence and aggression such as noise blast tests" (ProCon.org). The proof just isn 't there. As a gamer since a young age, I have been playing Call of Duty with my two older brothers since I was in 3rd grade. Among all three of us, we have experienced no increase in violence and as a result of this bonding time, we grew up having strong relationships with each other. It is not the game that invokes the violence in teens. The reason that people think violent video games create violence in kids is because the violent kids are drawn to playing violent games. In fact, " Violent juvenile crime in the United States has been declining as violent video game popularity has increased. The arrest rate for juvenile murders has fallen 71.9% between 1995 and 2008. The arrest rate for all juvenile violent crimes has declined 49.3%. In this same period, video game sales have more than quadrupled" (ProCon.org). These eye-opening statistics busts all beliefs that teens are being more violent members of society as a result of violent video games. Video games provides teenagers with a way of simmering down after a stressful day as well as a means of having fun with their friends. They invoke happiness into people, not hatred and violence. The only way for these young adult and teenage gamers to become violent would be if these video games were taken away entirely. This would spark anger and depression in the members of the gaming community who love video games and allowed them to become a substantial part of their lives. If parents have a problem with the games, then the parents should not allow their children to play
