LOVE... love has many definitions. I believe that love is never selfish, never hurtful. Love is a feeling, a decision and an action. As a feeling LOVE is from the heart. Tender, kind, gentle. Fully accepting of the person for who they are. Love gives and does not expect anything in return. Love gives happiness, support, joy. As a decision, LOVE is accepting a person's faults (we all have them) and not judging them. Love is forgiving and does not get angry. As an action LOVE is being there to support, encourage and share with the person you love, in any situation. Love is wanting to make their every moment a happy one. Love is drying the tears when things are down and rejoicing with him when things are good. When I love, I do so with all my heart. When you are weak, I am strong for you.. When you are hurting I am there to comfort you. When you work for your goals in life, I am there to encourage and support you and when you reach your goal I am there to celebrate and rejoice with you. Love is feeling the same

Lust is usually associated with carnal things, desiring to have what you shouldn't. I will understand when you say that lust between a couple can be a good thing. I believe that what feels like lust for husband/wife is really the desire to share the deepness and fullness of your love for him or her, in a way that no other woman should. A man should only lust after his wife and her after him.The true beauty of a person is in the heart and soul. When you love someone you can see this beauty and it shines through to the outside as well, making that person truly beautiful. To want someone just for how they look or how much money they have or what material possessions they own is to not know what love truly is and how to truly
Romeo and Juliet. England, 1597. Hong Lou Meng (I know, you have no clue what this is). China, 1791. Gatsby. America, 1925. What are they doing together? Has Ziyang gone crazy? Yeah, they’re all works of literature, but, as can be seen, they span centuries and continents. On the surface, they share no similarities whatsoever. However, within the pages lies a different tory. all of these novels feature the notorious theme of forbidden love, and affection-driven characters that would do anything to be together. This makes The Great Gatsby a very universal novel, despite its comparatively contemporary setting. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby completely reflects the universal, timeless archetype of the tragic hero who works infinitely hard to achieve their dream in love, only to die in pursuit of that dream.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
Love is said to be one of the most desired things in life. People long for it, search for it, and crave it. It can come in the form of partners, friends, or just simply family. To some, love is something of a necessity in life, where some would rather turn a cold shoulder to it. Love can be the mixture of passion, need, lust, loyalty, and blood. Love can be extraordinary and breathtaking. Love being held so high can also be dangerous. Love can drive people to numerous mad things with it dangerously so full of craze and passion.
Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. So let me leave you now with the words of the great Humanist Erich Fromm, "Can anything be learned about the art of love, except by practicing it?"
Love is not usually well defined. People often think that they are in love, but they cant explain it. There is a great dealing of confusion of the words love, and infatuation. Love may include romance, infatuation, affection and tenderness. But it could be love if one or more of the elements are not present. The definition of love varies from person to person. Love is essential element for all relationships. Much of what is written about love is either brief or mocking. Society in general is very cruel and heartless toward real love of any kind. Modern writing mocks marriages, husbands and wives, but condones adultery, and other obscene values. Real love is a mystery to most people. Most people never realize the true potential or value of love, nor do they learn to practice the art of love.
The Definition of Love Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God based on the definition found in The Encarta Encyclopedia. As I explored the definitions through the Internet, books, and articles, I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia is probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All of which can only be defined by one word and that is love.
When love is present it is what matters most, no obstacle is too big to overcome when hate does not exist. For instance, in an omnipotent perspective¬—through the eyes of religion—God had shown his eternal and unconditional love with no consequences before sin was created. There are many classes of love; a mother’s love, self-love, puppy love, everlasting love, love towards parents, and more. These vary to each relationship you have with others. Puppy love is something you experience similar to lust. It usually occurs when an adolescent experiences their “first love” and have an intense but shallow attachment to their partner. Its value is meaningless compared to love for family because there is a deeper connection between the parents, children, and siblings. Yet, even these types of love can be demeaned if hate enters the picture. Love and Hate is a cycle in every part of a relationship.
Some people believe that there is no such thing as “true love” they believe that love is nothing but an illusion designed by social expectations. These people believe that love ultimately turns into pain and despair. This idea in some ways is true. Love is not eternal it will come to an end one way or another, but the aspect that separates true love from illusion, is the way love ends. “True Love” is much too powerful to be destroyed by Human imperfection; it may only be destroyed by a force equal to the power of love. Diotima believed that “Love is wanting to posses the good forever” In other words love is the desire to be immortal and the only way that we are able to obtain immortality is through reproduction, and since the act of reproduction is a form of sexual love, then sexual love is in fact a vital part of “True love”. Sexual love is not eternal. This lust for pleasure will soon fade, but the part of love that is immortal, is a plutonic love. You can relate this theory to the birth of love that Diotima talks about. She says that love was born by a mortal mother and immortal father. The mother represents the sexual love, the lust for pleasure. The father represents the plutonic love that is immortal. Plutonic love is defined as a true friendship, the purest of all relationships. A true plutonic love will never die; it transcends time, space, and even death.
Many people have different perspectives when it comes to the topic of love. The word love has been tossed around by everybody and not very many people really understand the true meaning of love. There are some exceptions, but I think this is especially true for teenagers and young adults. I might be one of those people who do not fully understand the topic of love, but I hope to better understand the topic of love and its true meaning is this course.
Love is actually the choice one makes to put someone's wishes, desires and needs above our own. Many people confuse the word "love" with the meaning of the word "want" or "desire." For example, sometimes when a young man tells the woman of his dreams, "I love you", when he means that he "wants" her because of his own selfish desires. He's the one that may feel all excited over her, but in reality he may want her because of her physical appearance, or because of her mentality or her ability to make him feel good or important. Notice his primary motive for pursuing her is based on himself and his desires; not on pleasing her, although he may choose to please her, but that's only based upon the fulfillment of his wants. The same goes for a young woman, when she says to the man of her dreams, "I love you," she in fact means that she "wants" him because of his physical appearance, status, mentality or his ability to make her feel good or important.
Love is one of those things that means different things to different people. If you would look the word love up in the dictionary, you would find this: “an intense feeling of deep affection.” For some people, love can be purely romantic or even just purely sexual. For others, real love can only exist between family members or between people and a god. For some people, it is felt for your partners, family, pets, or even inanimate objects. None of the people are right or wrong, but I do know one thing, love is very powerful. Love is overused in today's world, people say they love someone because of the way they look or their body. That isn't love. To me, love is the most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric
First, we need to know what love is in order to identify it. From a biblical point of view, love is defined as, “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud (Corinthians 13:4)” It goes on to include that love is not selfish, not disrespectful, it forgives, trusts, hopes, and protects. The Four Loves, written by C.S. Lewis, defines love as a focus on another person and accepting him/her completely for who he/she is. It is the unselfish giving of yourself. Love and other emotions: On the process of feeling, by Jason Brown, defines love as a source of importance and value.
Often, many portray romantic love as a beneficial and desired emotion because its experience can lead to prosperity. While observing love from the outside, only its sentimental aspects in relationships are apparent, such as a couple holding hands or . Therefore, those not experiencing love believe it is a picture-perfect emotion, creating its potent allure. However, although love appears devoid of conflict, love’s effect induces feelings of fear, anguish, and carelessness which consequently govern our interactions with peers.
...or expression of desires and needs. Passion is not necessarily stable in relationships it can’t be controlled but you can feel how much you are feeling for someone. The final component is decision/commitment which can be a short term commitment, the decision to love a particular person or a long term commitment which is the decision to stay with someone over the long term. We control the amount of commitment we have in a relationship which is important in a long term relationship (Feenstra, 2011).
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
