A trickster is someone who disobeys normal rules or just plays around with people and their heads, for their own amusement. Tricksters can be found in movies, TV Shows, stories, and anyone around you could even be a trickster. A trickster always comes in handy to make tension go away or to generally entertain. In the movie “The Mask”, there is a man named Stanley. He finds a wooden mask that turns his face green and gives him outrageous powers. The mask makes Stanley evolve into a trickster that can place revenge in comedic ways. A scene in the movie, shows Stanley scaring off a gang on the streets by making a balloon animal turn into a gun. He also gets revenge of some people that did him wrong, or tricked him. In William Golding’s “Lord Of The Flies”, a group of boys is stranded on an island that completely changes them. The boys turn totally different from how they act from society as if they were putting on masks. It’s not just the boys that wear masks, but a lot of people try to hide from other people. The movie was based off of the book ‘Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race”. The three women,Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, were considered “human computers” due to their vast knowledge. The “human computers” group was made up of mostly women who worked for NASA to see that our astronauts made their trip to space safely.

The colors, texture and shape of a costume can create a feeling of the character that the actor may not be able to portray. At the formation of Jack's tribe, all who join wear a mask from that time on and become a part of the savages. As three savages return to steal fire, they are driven because they are "demoniac figures with faces of white and red" (Golding page #) not individual boys. The mask becomes such an anonymous symbol that, towards the end of the story, Ralph "gazed at the green and black mask before him trying to remember what Jack looked like" (Golding page #). Whether stealing, fighting, or hunting, the savages found their courage because they "looked like something else" "hidden behind the mask of paint" (Golding page #).

Even thought there is not a commonly agreed single definition for a trickster, Hydes and Hynes find common ground in saying that a trickster is someone who deceits, tricks , takes advantage of situations and certainly-among other things, disobeys normal rules.
