The main cause of WWI was Nationalism. First, new discoveries in militarism created a sense of nationalism for some countries going to war. Secondly, war amongst countries and their allies gave them a sense of nationalism while at war. Finally, a country’s strong imperialism made them and other countries gain nationalism. Germany advanced with a new type of warfare, which was poison gas. This form of militarism gave Germany a sense of nationalism because they wanted to maintain a strong military ("Total War- Everyone's a Target"). In addition, they wanted to be prepared to use the poison gas aggressively to advocate their national interests ("Total War- Everyone's a Target").
