Bill Gates
People, nowadays, spend many of their time with technology, working or having fun. One of those people who has contributed to technology is Steve Jobs, who created Apple Inc. which revolutionized the computer and mainly tablet industry with its amazing features. As equal as important as Steve Jobs, Marc Andreessen lead the creation of NCSA Mosaic, the web browser that transformed how we think about the World Wide Web. Additional to that, Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web, which changed the way people communicate, work, study, and play. But when using a computer, a tablet, the WWW, a web browser, the type of technology you’ll need to use all of them is an operating system and the man behind that industry is William Henry “Bill” Gates III.
Gates was born on the 28th of October 1955 in the city of Seattle, WA. Gate’s grew up in a wealthy family. His parents were William H. Gates Sr. and Mary Maxwell. Both of Gates’ parents had prominent positions in society. Gates had two siblings both sisters, one older and one younger. The family Gate’s grew up in motivated the children to be ambitious. Gates uncontrollably went through and studied volumes of information. He was a very energetic child who enjoyed sports.
Gates earliest introduction to computers was at the World’s Fair in Seattle, 1962. The first computer Gates worked with was a GE computer. As a teeanager, Gates was extremely dedicated to computers that he would take the chance to use the machine whenever he could even when it was time to sleep. Gates and his partner, Paul Allen, generated 20 thousand dollars with their earliest company, Traf-o-Data. Traf-o-Data was a business which used computers to read traffic statistics.

...4. The Gates Foundation is the biggest charitable organization that allows supporters to view how the money is used. Gates has focused on refining the American public education. The Gates plans to give 95% of their wealth towards philanthropy. Up to 2007, Gates has contributed 28 billion dollars towards charities.
Gates legacy will be mainly with the tech industry. Without Gates, the operating system industry might have never boomed and if that ever occurred, then people cannot access the Internet, their jobs would be harder, and news and information would not travel quickly. Not only did he make an impact in technology, he also made an impact in people in need. He had given tons of money to helping them and plans on giving more. He has helped them conquer sickness and poverty. Gates has given his money and knowledge to the world and helped everybody in great ways.
Bill Gates has had a mammoth effect not only in America, but also the world. Bill Gates is the man people credited for creating the success of Microsoft, and the Xbox gaming console. However, Forbes magazine says, “The world will remember Bill Gates”(Forbes). Yes, the world will remember Bill Gates not because he was the richest man in the world for 14 years straight (Forbes), but because of all his efforts overseas and how he encourages other wealthy people to share their money with the less fortunate. If we look just in our own houses we see the effects of Bill Gates, almost every computer has Microsoft word and PowerPoint. In this paper, we will talk about all the impact Bill Gates has had not only in America but also the world.
It started with two teenagers who envisioned an endless world of possibilities for the world of computing at an early stage. Paul Allen and Bill Gates were two high school students who attended Lakeside their dreams of one day being computer moguls started with a word processor, the Teletype Model 33 that they played with and programmed. It was brought from a rummage sale that the Mothers club attended. It was located in the activity room at their private school in Washington.
The William H. Gates foundation was started in 1994 and was operated by Bill’s dad. Paul came back to Microsoft and Bill and Paul donated to their old school, Lakeside private school. They created a auditorium in the school named after their old friend, Kent Evans. In 1995, Microsoft started adding the internet to their future plans. They created a web browser called Internet Explorer and launched a network for the internet called MSN. Along with this, Windows 95 was also released that same year.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation started in 1997 when the Gates family read an article about the millions of children in poor countries who were dying from disease. They have been working to reduce poverty and poor health throughout the world ever since as well as create a better world for both future and present generations. The Gates Foundation is one of the few truly transparent organizations in the world where no money is going into the pockets of the founders. The two founders of the foundation are Bill Gates, who is the co-chair and a trustee, and his wife Melinda Gates, who is also, serves as co-chair and trustee. Other trustees are Warren Buffet and William Gates Sr. Several others work for the organization as both permanent staff and volunteers. We will be looking at their areas of focus, strategies, and main goals. We will also review how they give out grants and their overall effectiveness ("Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.").
"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." -Bill Gates (Bill 1). Microsoft Windows, as of October 2013, is used by approximately 85 percent of all laptops and desktops worldwide (StatCounter 1). The Windows operating system is the pride and joy of the programmer, inventor, and co-founder of Microsoft, William Henry Gates III. His impact on the world has been astronomical resulting in many advancements in science and technology that just wouldn’t have been possible without him. In order to fully understand his significance and influence in the world, one must be knowledgeable of his background, the critics view of his most famous achievement, and must have a discussion about his impact and importance in the modern world.
Started in 1994 Bill Gates focused on families that were on low income as well as helping children to achieve the education they need. “Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people's health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.” Bill Gates total net worth is about 92 billion dollars and out of all of that he has donated a third of the amount to his own foundation. Gates stepped down from his position from Microsoft in 2014 to focus all of his attention on this foundation.
When most people hear about Bill Gates the first thing that comes to mind is the obscene amount of money he has made through out his career. Owning many different foundations, the most common foundation known to most college students is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that provide many different scholarships. However, this foundation also does various things to give back to communities and aiding suffering countries. Within this foundation there are also various branches such as the United States Program, The Global Development Program and the Global health program that have grown over time making the Gates a commonly used household name.
Becoming the richest man in the world, Bill Gates is one of the most influential men. Not only is Bill Gates one of the most influential figures in the world, but he is also one of the most influential figures in the business world. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. Gates was born into already well established family. “His father, William Henry Gates Jr., was a successful lawyer, and his mother, Mary Maxwell, was chairwoman of United Way International.”(Stevenson).
Bill Gates, as we all know, developed Microsoft and made billions of dollars…$76 billion-plus, to be exact! But it had nothing at all to do with a limitless pill. While Gates may have talked about finding an easier way to do things, building Microsoft was of course anything but easy. However, Gates did start off focusing on the smaller things. For example, by the age of 13 he already knew how to use a teletype block computer in the private prep school he attended. When he was 17 he had already mastered source code and began a business along with a friend.
After completing their second year of college Gates and Allen had decided to make their own software company. They started out with Micro-Soft as the first name of the company but later took the hyphen. Gates had soon went back to school at harvard however he dropped out in 1977 before he graduated. On his time out he soon devoted himself to Microsoft and made it his full-time Job. This would help him find the problems and fix them. It would make the company a lot stronger and better. “In 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, two young computer hobbyists from Palo Alto, California, unveiled the prototype for the Apple 1 computer. A local computer dealer saw the Apple 1 and ordered 100 pre-assembled units. Over the next 10 months, about 200 Apple 1’s were sold.” (Musolf).
As a kid Bill Gates attended Lakeside School as a kid at the age of 13 he had a interest in computer programing, in the programing class he first created a tic-tac-toe program in basic computer language that allowed users to play against the computer. Later on Bill meet a friend Paul Allen who also had an interest in computer programing. They shared lots of free time together creating programs. In 1970 Bill Gates went in to business at the age of 15 him and Paul created Traf-o-Data, a computer program that monitored traffic patterns in Seattle, and netted $20,000 for their efforts him and
He had helped IBM with an operating system for their new personal computer coming out soon. “In order to meet the IBM deadline, Gates paid $50,000 for the rights to a rudimentary operating system called "Q-DOS" ("quick and dirty operating system") designed by a Seattle programmer. Gates and his team made some adjustments to the system and added some new features, renaming the result MS-DOS (after Microsoft)”(McGuire 1). Bill Gates had made his first operating system which was the kickstart to his new company called Microsoft. One problem he went through was when his amazing success brought him to court.
Gates suggested that IBM “license it and charge a fee for the software” (Bill. Biography). Over the next three years, everything “exploded” and the stock price shot up. Gates and Allen incorporated Microsoft, with Gates as president and Chairman” (Bill. Biography). Microsoft was eventually “running thirty percent of the world’s software”. The IBM deal was possibly the biggest event in the history of Microsoft.
It was at Lakeside that he was first introduced to computers. In the spring of 1968 the Lakeside Prep School concluded that it should acquaint the student body with the world of computers. They were still too large and costly for the school to purchase it's own, so instead they had a fund raiser and bought computer time on a DEC PDP-10 owned by General Electric. A few thousand dollars were raised which the school figured would buy more than enough time to last into the next school year. But they had drastically underestimated the amount of students that would be addicted to this machine.
While Bill Gates was at junior high a group of parents raise money to purchase the first computerized terminal in the school. When that happened he decided to take all his time to work on that system teaming with other students to learn about different operating systems. He excelled in his learning of systems and he started developing ideas to make business with companies in order to learn how they make their terminals. His mind for busi...
