Gaius Caesar Germanicus is the name given to the Roman Emperor who so quickly went from being loved, to being hated by many. Gaius was a man of leadership that unfortunately, due to health issues, caused him to lose all his love from his people. He grew up having role models that taught him how to rule at such a young age. His yearning to lead showed to many allowing him to be put into a high position of leadership so early in life. Many items were changed in his power that brought the people a great deal of joy. Unfortunately, due to falling ill he was changed for the worse. Germanicus was a great Roman Emperor until he was changed from an illness.
Gaius Caesar Germanicus was born on August 31, in the year 12 A.D. in Antium, Italy which is now present day Anzio. He earned the nickname Caligula which means little boot or little sandal. He earned this name somewhere between the age of two and four. When wearing miniature versions of military sandals or caligae the soldiers took notice, hence the nickname. Caligula started out as a young boy that looked up to his great grandparents and father. He had many role models that lead him in the right path. Being put into leadership at such a young age he was thought to be the leader that everyone needed. He proved to be this leader until he fell ill and became ill minded. Although he had many great achievements and benefited the citizens in many ways they could not overlook this when he became crazed. They all got together to figure out how to get rid of him which they all settled with the same idea, death. Throughout Gaius Gracchus life, events changed his motivation and desire in public office. At first, he designed his primary goal to rouse the populace against the current government in a personal goal for the death of Tiberius. Following the initial upset in the system of government, he moved to create an improved system for the people of Italy through social reform. Many laws and decrees enacted favored the populace, but offended the senators. Even though Gaius created progress for the Senate for decades, it came at a price of death for him.

Gaius Julius Caesar was born on the 12th of July 100BCE to his father, a Praetor who governed the province of Asia, and his mother Aurelia Cotta, who was of noble birth. The family held Populare ideologies which favoured democracy and extended rights for the lower classes. As opposed to the Optimates whose sole focus was on superiority and nobility (Vroma.org, 2011).
Many Roman people believed that Tiberius’ later years damaged the carefully crafted political edifice put together by Augustus. They then realized that Tiberius was a glorious emperor compared to Caligula. As the people called him “our baby” and “our star”, it is ironic that his name later became synonymous with words such as hedonism, cruelty, tyranny, and insanity.
Marius paved the road that inspired many to follow in his footsteps, as Caesar and Octavian, which led to the breakdown of the Republic. Marius held consulship for a record breaking seven years, completely disregarding the Lex Annalis, and leaving the senate looking slightly powerless in the eyes of its people. Also, Marius used war and corruption on his side in order to hold his political power in Rome, knowing full well he was needed to fend off invasions especially from the north. By abolishing the Servian laws, he also allowed the landless and the poor to join in the army, which created status problems for the Romans, and encouraged others to follow right along with his creation of a professional, private army through the Marian Laws and reforms. Gaius Marius put into affect army reforms that changed the military, political and social aspects of Roman society. These reforms brought about private professional armies, enlarged aristocratic values by increasing wealth, and eventually led to the exploitation of legal and political faults to boost personal power that all together helped to disestablish the republic.
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, born 15 December 37 AD, was Roman Emperor from 54 to 68 AD, and the last in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Nero was adopted by his granduncle Claudius to become his heir and successor, and succeeded to the throne in 54AD following Claudius’ suspicious death. The book that I chose to discuss is Blood of the Caesars: How the Murder of Germanicus Led to the Fall of Rome by Stephen Dando-Collins. The thesis of his book is that the murder of Germanicus Julius Caesar led to the eventually fall of the Roman Empire. I believe Dando-Collins decided to write on this particular event in the Roman history because he had a thirst of knowledge to learn more about Germanicus and the mystery began to become solved due to new evidence. Julius Caesar was born either on July 12th or July 13th of July 100 BC in Rome, Italy. Nobody knows for sure which day. He was born into the Julian clan. His full name is Gaius Julius Caesar. Although Caesar's family was closely associated with the Marian faction in Roman politics, his family would be considered middle class of today’s standards. Caesar married Cornelia around the age of 18. Cornelia was the only woman in Caesar's life to give birth to a legitimate child. While married to Cornelia, the dictator Sulla ordered Caesar to divorce Cornelia, Caesar refused, so Sulla put Caesar on the list of people to be executed. For this Caesar went into hiding. Augustus cared about the people of Rome. He was a great military leader and was successful in most of his missions. Julius Caesar was a strong leader of the Romans who changed the course of the history for the Roman world decisively and irreversibly. With his courage and strength, he created a strong empire and guided the empire for almost 20 years. His life was short, but had many adventures. I will tell of some of this man’s remarkable life. He did many things, therefore, I will only discuss a few. His name, part of his reign, one of his greatest battles, and his death will be told.
With the decline and fall of the western empire, the classical age of Rome came to a close as disease, warfare and corruption conspired to bring about the downfall of an ailing empire that had once conquered the known world. Where once enlightened despots had ruled a debauched and unwieldy polity, now barbarians stood over the ruins of a once thriving metropolis. In its absence a new world would arise with new values and ideals. Turning their back on a pagan past the Christian children of these wild men from the north would spawn the greatest houses of future European nobility, and when they looked back for a legacy, they would not see their ancestors as pillagers picking at the bones of a defiled Rome, but instead as its trusted guardians, partnering with the Church to carry her legacy through the “Dark Ages”.
The narcissistic side of Caligula comes out when he proclaims himself a god to the roman people, in his eye no one else is worth more than himself. He had no empathy for others when they died, and he would kill anyone with no guilt. He used his authority to bend the laws of Rome to murder. He would also indulge himself in wild orgies all the time. This all was made possible by his ability to hide his feelings from those around him and use his social abilities to make the roman people think that he is on their side
