In this essay we will be Comparing and Contrasting the two short stories, "The Lady with a Dog" and "A Doctor's Visit". These stories are alike and different in many ways. I hope you can see the similarities and differences in my essay. At the same time as having differences these two stories also have their similarities. These stories have only a few similarities, few but some. They are both stories about women with illnesses. "The owner of the Company, Madam Lyalikov, was ill." (Page 10 "A Doctor's Visit"). They are also two stories about heartbreak and being unfaithful. "He looked at her fixed, scared eyes, and kissed her and she was comforted and she gaiety returned." (Page 4 "The Lady with a Dog"). Unlike in A Doctor's Visit, The Lady with a Dog has a curable sickness. Her sickness being she can't get through a day without a man, even though she is married, Her husband is never around so she feels the need to provide herself with male company. However in A Doctor's Visit the woman has a heart condition that makes it where she has a heart attack that will come then go "I have palpitations of the heart," she said " It was so awful all night." "The heart is all right," he said; "it's all going satisfactorily; everything is in good order. your nerves must have been playing pranks a little, but that's so common. the attack is over by now." Also something else that's different is the woman in A Doctor's Visit wants help for her sickness "The Professor received a telegram from the Lyalikovs' factory, He was asked to come as quickly as possible.
