The Korean War explicitly portrayed the atrocious battle between both the North and South side which gave the United Nations its military role for the first time, thus expanding the war from a domestic to an international scale. Sometimes called “The Forgotten War”, the Korean War was mainly overshadowed in historical terms by the conflicts that occurred before and after it, World War II and the Vietnam War. The Korean War had raged for years without a true resolution and after years of battles, even the compromise that was made was not a complete one. The current situation regarding North and South Korea is quite volatile. In order to apprehend the Korean War, one has to look at events that took place before the war, how the war was conducted and the aftermath of the War.
Events that took before the war were what had initially sparked the rancor between both nations of Korea. Despite the fact that World War 2 just ended, tension between North and South Korea remained heated. Causes of the Korean War can mainly be broken down into two different categories; ideological and political reasoning. The Soviet Union, China and North Korea, the communist side, ideologically wanted to secure the Korean peninsula and incorporate it in a communist bloc. This “domino effect” feared individuals such as Harriet Truman due to the fact that the potential danger of other countries such as Japan and Korea becoming a communist bloc was definitely not something Truman had hoped for. Politically, the Soviet Union considered the Korean peninsula as a springboard to attack Russia and asserted that the Korean government should be “loyal” to the Soviet Union, this was where the United States stepped in, realizing that they were in a competition for world...

...h Korea, was a battle that had no real outcome. Lives were lost and buildings were destroyed but there was no resolution that had settled the ongoing tension between both nations. The Battle of Incheon and the Battle of the Kapyong were two significant battles that turned the tide of the war towards one direction, through strategic fighting and with the help of allied countries that involved the United Nations, China and the Soviet Union. Many lives were affected as a result of this battle and it also was a vital advancement for the United Nations as the War allowed them to prosper. Despite the fact that the pressure between South and North Korea had not yet settled, both nations had learnt a great dealt from the War. Coming to understand the war fully, it is vital that we view the events both prior and after the war so that the War itself can be viewed as a whole.
The Korean War changed the face of American Cold War diplomacy forever. In the midst of all the political conflict and speculation worldwide, the nation had to choose between two proposed solutions, each one hoping to ensure that communism didn?t sweep across the globe and destroy American ideals of capitalism and democracy. General Douglas MacArthur takes the pro-active stance and says that, assuming it has the capability, the U.S. should attack communism everywhere. President Harry Truman, on the other hand, believed that containing the Soviet communists from Western Europe was the best and most important course of action, and that eliminating communism in Asia was not a priority.
The United States vows to protect the democratic South Korea. American forces defend South Korea but are almost pushed on the peninsula . Douglas Mccarthur is in charge of the American forces. He stages an impressive counter attack that pushes the North Koreans all the way back to China. This is when China enters the warand pushes American forces back to the 38Th parallel. The Korean War began when the North Koreans invaded South Korea across the 38th parallel on June 25, 1950. The North Korean forces fought their way to Pusan at the southern edge of the Korean peninsula. With the North Koreans controlling most of the peninsula, General Douglas MacArthur landed an amphibious assault at Inchon on September 15, 1950 and wrested control of South Korea from North Korean forces. After MacArthur’s forces marched to the northern border of Korea, China entered the war. After a major Chinese attack and a major American counter attack, the front of the war had a new stage, the Chosin Reservoir (Henretta, Edwards & Self 768).

During 1950 there was much opposition to the thought of ending the Korean War. While the United States of America and the United Nations Command sought out to peacefully end the war, both North Korea and South Korea were hell-bent towards unifying the Korean peninsula in their own image. While at this time South Korea, was an ally of
The United States would invade the south and Russian forces would take the north. Russian troops forced the Japanese army to surrender in September of 1945, which allowed American troops to enter the south. The country of Korea was now divided in half with a communist government in the north and in the south, a democratic government was established. Korea had now become two completely separate countries, the north was referred to as ‘North Korea’, and the south was referred to as ‘South Korea’. In an attempted to reunite the country and make the two completely again, North Korea invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950. The ruler of North Korea Kim Il-sung attempted to unify Korea under his current rule using the military (“Liberty in North Korea”, 2017). The North Koreans were successful and quickly overthrew the South Korean army gaining control over South Korea’s capital ‘Seoul’. British and American forces arrived and were able to push North Korean forces back and gain control of over two-thirds of North Korea. The Chinese than intervened
U.S. participation was centered on America’s foreign policy at the time. Although the War did not break out until June of 1950, several conflicts brewed over the attempt to take over the entire nation under one rule for several years after World War II. The majority of these conflicts took place at the 38th parallel where Korea was split. Decisions influenced by President Harry S. Truman and his doctrine, which was essentially the policy to contain the spread of communism, gave the United Nations an opportunity to prevent global domination through communism (“Teaching with Documents”). The fear of international communism from the powers of the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China was the main reason that caused the United States to intervene.
General Douglas MacArthur will forever be remembered for his famed Inchon landing in the Korean War, a piece of tactical genius which swung the tide of the war in favour of the United Nations (UN) and the South Koreans. However, what was his overall contribution to the conflict from the Inchon landing, to his dismissal from his role on April 11th 1951? While the Inchon landing was an unprecedented success, which very few could have the audacity to execute, its success was also the catalyst for the errors in judgement that would follow resulting in Chinese involvement in the war. Ultimately ending in the armistice on July 27th 1953, the Korean War had not been the success many had promised initially following the Inchon landing. This essay will explore Douglas MacArthur's actions leading up to, including, and following the Inchon invasion in an attempt to assess his overall effectiveness as Commander in Chief of the United Nations Command.
Japan was imperializing late nineteenth century to early twentieth century. Korea was a Japanese colony. After World War II, the Japanese had to get rid of the colony. North Korea became Communist. South Korea wanted to be democratic. Later North Korea crossed the 38th parallel and entered South Korea. The United States answered by telling the United Nations to help South Korea. The United Nations did and they pushed North Korea so far back they hit the northern tip of china. China went into the war to protect their borders. At the end of the war they went back to where they were in the beginning. Neither side won. Between 1992 -1995 North Korea did many good things. There is a lot of chaos in the world today; people getting executed and terrorists bombings all around the world. One of the most talked-about conflict is the saber-rattling between North Korea and South Korea. This tension has been going since 1950, where it began after World War II. Before World War II, the separate Nations formed one country; however, because of the invasion of the Soviet Union to the north and that United States to the South, the country ended up splitting into two different societies. This caused division between families and other forms of groups. In addition, there were negative and positive influences in both countries from their Allied Nations.
History By the summer of 1950 after the successful landing at Inchon by the US X Corps which led to the destruction of the North Korean Army, the Korean War seemed to be in the final phases of completion. United Nations (UN) forces spearheaded by the US Eighth army and X Corps were advancing northward with the goal of completely reuniting North and South Korea. The Taebaek Mountains which are an extremely rugged north –south oriented mountain range divide Korea.
Throughout history the United States has fought in many wars. Whether the fighting took place in Europe such as WWI or in our own land like the civil war. The one war many people seem to forget is the Korean War. The Korean War also known as the “forgotten war” was a war between North Korea, South Korea and the US together with the South Koreans to help. The Korean War was fought on sea, land, and in the air over and near the Korean peninsula (Brown, p.2). On June 25, 1950, the North Koreans rumbled across the thirty-eighth parallel. The invasion was successful because the south was not expecting or even prepare for a war. The invasion was so successful that they pushed the south to a tiny defensive area around Pusan. That’s when President Truman steps in real quick to halt the invasion of the North Koreans. Truman ordered American armed forces under General Douglas MacArthur to support South Korea. The Korean War was a clash between Communist forces and Free World (Brown, p.2).
The nation of Korea is on the northeastern border of China. The Korean War, also known as “The Forgotten War”started on June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953. The Korean War was a drop back from the Cold War. 75,000 soldiers from North Korea made an attack across the 38th parallel, beginning the war. There are various causes of the Korean War such as the country being divided along the 38th parallel, the Truman Doctrine, and rising tension between the rulers of the north and south.
