The 1920s was a time of dramatic social and political changes. For the first time ever more Americans lived in cities rather than farms. The nation's wealth doubled and the country came together listening to the same music, buying the same goods due to chain stores, in the racy era. However with the country coming together, not only good was produced in this time period. The Klu Klux Klan came to be in the 1920’s and rapidly grew and spread across the nation. The KKK was an ‘alliance’ between white people who hated on Jews, Catholics, immigrants, and most of all blacks due to “true-Americanism.” However a short lived phenomenon was a very harsh time for many people living in the US.
Originally the first klan was around in the late 1880s and 1890s but toward the end of those years, it became very weak and lost many members. However after World War I, it came back into a large popular group once more. This was due to Americans targeting Germans because they were blamed for causing the war. Also in 1915 a movie Birth of a Nation was released which brought back the fear of black equality. The film triggered the rebirth of the KKK. William J. Simmons was inspired and him along with 13 other white men, started the second klan by burning a cross. Americans who later joined the klan wanted to target who they thought were the main causes of the violence, crime, lawbreakers, bootleggers, unfaithful spouses, and corrupt politicians. Some of the first to blame were immigrants since they came over not caring about anything except money and getting away from their old lives so people tended to blame them. Others to blame were blacks and jews because they are in the minority making them easy
