Recommended: The kite runner book review

The book I chose to write my book report is “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. I chose this book because it was recommended to me by my older sister and the tale of this story is amazing . This book centers around the ups and downs of the friendship between a boy who was born into a respected and wealthy family and a boy who was born to a servant and very poor. Khaled Hosseini is an afghan born american novelist as well as a physician. He was a doctor in california until his book “kite runner” became a big hit and then he became a full time novelist. At the time he had published 3 books all set in afghan with afghan protagonist. He first left afghanistan to france then later to the US. He did go back but felt like tourist in his own country. It tells of Amirs birth and childhood with Hassan a Hazara who was …show more content…

Amir has always craved a bond with his father who was always respected and praised among their society. Amir blames himself for his mother dying giving birth to him and feels as his father resents him. Amir is a little bit jealous of Hassan for his father paying him attention and it did not help that amir himself wa not good at soccer or sports and could not stand up for himself so Hassan always stood up for him. Amir and Hassan join a Kite fighting competition as they win the kite drops and Hassan goes to get the spoils of their fight but a group of boys that Hassan had stood up to for Amir conners him and gives him a choice of giving him the kite and being forgiven or Assef would get his revenge. Hassan decides to keep the kite for Amir and gets beat and raped. While Amir watches to scared to even try to help and runs away in fear. Though he does get praised by his father he can no longer be friends with Hassan and tries to frame him but they end up leaving on their own. This type of thing built guilt up inside of him because he was then viewed as weak by his father’s friend. His move to America after the Communist Coup proved difficult for his family, especially his father.
