The Jungle Chapter Summaries

Thomas is the main character who wakes up puking in a metal caged elevator with no memory of who he is or where he is. Once the elevator reached the top the doors open on top of him with a group of boys staring at him, Thomas or as he gets called by the boys “Greenie” gets blinded by the sun. It took Thomas a while to get out of the elevator confused. Until a kid named Chuck who becomes Thomas’s friend helps him out and shows him the village called the Glade. Thomas notices some animals some corn and other unusual things around the Glade. Thomas notices some big grey stone walls with ivy growing on the side of them and questions Chuck about them. Chuck explains to Thomas that only runners go beyond the walls trying to map and find a way out

Thankfully all the maps that were burned were decoys only caused for panic. Thomas is able to find and look at the actual maps with Teresa both of them together found a series of code letters hidden in the real maps and turned out to spell out words. Even though the words had no relation at all to each other. Thomas in act of desperation for some of his unrememberable memories, Thomas lets a griever sting him.

Thomas taking time to recover from the sting, he explains that Teresa and himself did help the creators to design the Maze but only because they were forced too. He tells everyone that Teresa and himself share some sort of telepathic link. He also knows the way out of the Maze,Thomas says that its a cliff and that the cliff is an illusion to trick the Gladers. The cliff was where the Grievers came and left the Maze. Thomas stated that if they follow the grievers down the cliff all of them can find the way out by inserting the code words onto computer system on the other

Startling Teresa,Thomas,and Chuck a door disengages and opens leading the remaining Gladers slide down a slide that dumped them out in an underground bunker. There they came face to face up close with the creators who were observing them from behind some sort of glass. A woman came out to meet the kids. She tells them they have done well, a young boy was with her. The boy was Gally who drew a knife and aimed for Thomas but Chuck jumped in front of the knife,giving up his life to save Thomas. Thomas’s heart was crushed and put Thomas in depressed sad mood because he had promised Chuck to find a way out of the Maze and help Chuck go back to his family. Thomas violently attacked Gally,almost beating Gally to death.

Suddenly, a group of rescuers rush in the room and shoot the woman who came out to meet them the Gladers were taken out of the Maze leading them outside into the pouring rain where a bus was waiting for them. As the Gladers were getting onto the bus some hideous woman grabs Thomas’s arm and tells him that his purpose is to save everyone from the Flare that had occurred on Earth. As
