Mariam Websters Dictionary- defines an addiction as “compulsive need for and use of a habbit-forming substance characterized by tolerance and by well defined physiological symptoms by tolerance and by well defined physiological symptomps upon withdrawal; broadly ;persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful.”
Addiction for that matter in any field has consequences that effect adversely.
In todays world internet serves as a tool,making life more easier in finding necessary information and also connecting with different people around the world. When we use the internet for the wrong purposes, it very soon can lead to being a disorder. Anything used excessively than it should naturally becomes an addiction.

In todays academic world, inside the life of a student, like many other disorders, internet addiction is also considered as a disorder. Internet addiction in many of the adolescents is the cause leading to Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder(ADHD). Excessive use of internet affects a students life both in the school as well as disrupts his/her daily normal activities. As a result of internet addiction the students grades are lowered, this raises concern with parents.
Like all other vices,students may use internet to overcome depression, worry, anxiety, hopeless feeling, bullying, anger, dishonesty etc. Students end up substituting peer friendships to spending time on the internet.
In day to day family life, internet addiction may affect husband-wife relationship or also child and parent relationship. Constant use of internet can lead one to obsessing or obsession, thus spending most of the time on-line, which eventually could end up in divorce. Internet addiction results in individuals spending less time with family, community or social gatherings. This eventually leads them to spend more time in seclusion and spend less time with the world around
