Democracy is a structured system in which government officials are elected based on a majority of votes by the people. Democracy stresses the governance by the people through their elected representatives. If you don’t think the official you elected is governing based on the reasons you voted for him, you can elect a different representative in the next election that is the beauty of democratically held elections. Its important to remember a democracy doesn’t call for socio economic equality; the equality in a democracy is that everyone has equal representation through government. In essence a democracy is something where it doesn’t matter how rich or poor you are, the color of your skin everybody’s votes for elected officials are worth the exact same. Classic liberalism is synonymous with libertarians of today. They advocated for individual rights, and as little government. Classic liberals were proponents of capitalism, free markets, they wanted as much authority over their own lives as possible without the government infringing on their rights. A liberal democracy is a synonymous with a representative democracy in which we the people elect officials to democratically represent us. However those elected officials have limited power through the constitution. Which forbids them to do anything that would infringe on private individuals rights. The constitution protects things like freedom of speech, and freedom of religion two things that are both ingrained in the United States. The constitution also gives the citizens things such as due process, protects private property, and ensures equality. Things are things the elected representatives cannot infringe upon.
