What is a hero? Some think that a hero is a person who has supernatural powers who would save the day from the bad people, such as Batman and superman. But there is more to that, a hero is someone who puts an impact on the world or people and changes it to the better. According to Merriam-Webster, “a hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” The word hero is derived from the Latin word heros and from the Greek hērōs. (2014) A hero can also be defined as an adventurer. (Thesaurus, 2014) Bullying is a major problem in the world. Many teenagers suffer from bullying in their daily basis. They both were courage and brave to end something that many people are suffering from and giving them hope to move on. The first reason for Lizzie being a hero is the fact that she is suffering from a rare syndrome, which gave the people a key to bullying her. After a video was posted of her “The world’s ugliest woman”, she received many violent and hurtful comments, for example “to do herself a favor and shot herself”. Lizzie was very depressed at that time and thought of killing herself but instead she started to look at the positive side. Her experiences lead her to start local events and small audiences to share her story. She inspired people after her speech “How do you define yourself” in TedxAustinWomen. (Ward, 2014) On the other hand, Demi Lovato is also a hero. In middle school, many students are being bullied for being over weight and getting teased by others. The first reason for Demi being a hero is the fact that she has an eating disorder, which made her obese and caused people to bully her. Secondly, the girls at Demi’s school started a petition “I Hate Demi” which caused Demi to receive mean and violent texts from the whole school. In addition, girls would come over to her house and yell mean words to Demi across the street. Furthermore, Demi struggled with anorexia, bulimia, and self-harm.
