Leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the organization is running effectively. In addition, the decisions that are made should be in the best interest of the organization, therefore, the leader should ensure that the decisions are moving the organization closer to its vision. According to Manning and Curtis (2015), there are 10 qualities that influence the leadership process: Vision, Ability, Enthusiasm, Stability, Concern for others, Self-confidence, Persistence, Vitality, Charisma, and Integrity. Leaders have to consider these 10 qualities when making effective decisions about the organization. The first quality that an effective leader should consider when making decisions is the vision. The leader has to have a clear picture as to where the organization is going. Additionally, without a clear vision, the organization will lack effectiveness and the organization will not thrive. The observed leader scored a 9 on the vision question. The vision of the school is to “Provide a safe and productive learning environment in which students can communicate effectively, think critically, and solve problems successfully in order to make valuable contributions to society” (“Vision Statement Section”, n.d). The observed leader can improve on ensuring that everyone plays a part in important aspects of the organization that needs improvement and at the same time aligned with the stated vision. The second quality that an effective leader should consider when making decisions is the “ability” to do the job. According to Manning and Curtis (2015), a leader must know the job p.30. When leaders rely on others to complete the responsibilities of the organization, the people in the organization begin to lose respect for the leader (Manning & Curtis, 2015). The observed leader is very competent and knowledgeable about the job. The other leaders at the school rely strongly on the observed leader to ensure the school runs smoothly. In addition, the observed leader is a great resource for others in the school because of the many areas that the leader is responsible for and knowledgeable about. The observed leader has good judgment because the mixture of personal life and professional life does not interfere with the decision-making process. The third quality that an effective leader should consider when making decisions is enthusiasm. According to Hopkin (2009), “enthusiasm drives passion and fuels achievement”. The observed leader is always walking the halls with an upbeat spirit. This displays to others a sense of enjoyment about the job that is being done.
