Food is an essential to everyone on the planet. That is why food security is always a crucial issue. It means life or death to many people. Our ability to feed the entire planet is often debated. The root cause of why there are so many hungry people is not always easy to figure out. We see mass amounts of excessive waste in wealthier countries, while many live impoverished and die from a lack of food in other countries. The disconnect seems to always be there no matter the amount of aid that is given or food that is grown. The problem is not always a lack of food, but much more a lack of wealth. You must have money to eat it, it is not a given right. Food is about money, and how accessible food is comes down to the price of it. There
It is obvious that this is not being accomplished right now. Around 795 million people do not have enough food to be counted as secure. The connection of this issue to poverty is obvious. The way the food system is set up is a large complicated issue that is negatively affecting the ability to feed the impoverished population in the world. The food supply/demand relationship is broken and causing a disconnect from the food being supplied and the ability to get this food to the people who need it. As climate and environmental accountability and awareness increases it also makes prices rise in the food industry. New solutions must be found to create a sustainable food industry. Godfrey looks at many of these solutions in his argument, but the cost of these are not examined.
