Be Mindful: Make Good Choices “There be some boneheaded moves but as long as you learn one more lesson than mistake made you're good” Hilton Cole, Norfolk State University ‘15 One of the disadvantages of advantages in college is that you do not have anyone around to tell you what to do. Every decision you make has to be on your own. Every judgement made must be the right one. The right decision is the one that you feel is the best for you. Granted, not every decision you make will produce a great result. Not every choice will be easy to make. But that comes with being an adult. Poor choices will be made that you may regret, but as long as you learn from them that are all that matters. The best way, as I have learned, to make sure you make the right choice is to have those constant reminders in your head; somethings to keep in mind Keep In Mind …show more content…
You may want to stay in bed instead of going to class. You may want to go out drinking with your friends on the weekend instead of studying for that test you have on Monday. Decisions like these and many more, will arise throughout your tenure in college. They will range from very easy to extremely difficult. The most effective way to handle them is to remember a few things that you always keep in the back of your mind (should be done in order): 1. Would this help/hurt my success?: Everyone wants to sleep in and not go to class, but those who want to be great, they ask themselves, “does sleeping in help or hurt my success?” Those who want that success, they get out of bed and start the day. It is the same with every other decision. Ask yourself if watching TV instead of studying will help or hurt, or if eating that cheeseburger instead of going to the gym will help or hurt. By asking yourself if any action brings you closer or farther away from your goals, you should make the right

The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges that come with a higher edification. Answers from Six New Graduates The lawyer Beverly Ozowara stated “she had the opportunity to travel (for a third of the normal cost) to Brazil with the Notre Dame Concert Band. During the trip, I was able to do things like perform at the oldest concert hall in the Americas and to swim in the Amazon river” (Dwyer113). While in college now I have met many different people in the classroom, where they are from and different things about their background. Opening and communicating with others helps you to be a people person with in the
While interviewing Mr. Coles, I found I tended to agree with him on several of his points. Mr. Coles summed up himself, and how I feel, quite simply: "College gives you options." Unlike high school, you’re not required to fulfill a certain number of units in one year. If you have other plans for your life, you can accommodate those while going to school. But, that applies not only while you’re in college, but also when you get out of college. "Life’s about choices," Mr. Coles continued, "it’s about having choices. You come to critical points in your life where decisions have to be made, hopefully you have some options...[...
College, a gateway for expanding the horizons within our youth has many conflicting ideas due to it's cost, suggesting that it may not even be worth it. Yet thinking about having this privilege of exposing our minds to anything and everything we desire while providing ourselves with far more opportunity in the future makes every late night double shift, staying up until 3 am, living off ramen noodles well worth it.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
Lastly, if you are stuck in a decision, create some rules in your life - or in that specific area of life - that will help you make decisions much easier. When you have rules in place, indecisiveness will be much less
The more you think about things the better decision you will be able to make. When you
When I think about all of the people that don’t have an education, I feel grateful for myself. But then I also realize that many people don’t get enough to eat and don’t have a place to live. Many people don’t have a comfortable bed to sleep in at night or a backyard to play in with their friends. These facts bring tears to my eyes. But I can make a difference. Thoughtful acts are not only beneficial to the receiver of the act, but also to the giver, and others in the community. You never know the impact that you may have on others.
Spencer Johnson’s book, “Yes” or “No”; The Guide to Better Decisions gave a great perspective on how to make better decisions. By following the two-part journey to arrive at a better decision, any life choice can be effortlessly and hastily solved. From the choices we make more often like our attitude and health choices, to our deeper choices like our spiritual and relationship choices, simply analyzing what we need vs. what we want and asking ourselves a practical vs. personal question can save a lot of time in the long run by allowing you to completely ignore making the wrong decision and dealing with its consequences. Understanding the messages and principles given in this book can make the entire process a natural process and lead to making even a good decision maker, the best decision
Choices, everyone goes through them sometimes you make good ones and sometimes you make bad ones. In my case I’ve mad a lot of bad choices in my Junior year of High School. I’ve learned the hard way about making bad choices, lying, and being disrespectful to my family. In some ways I think learning the hard way was good for me, otherwise I might not have learned at all. After being in trouble and experiencing the worst of my past high school years, I have new motivation to get everything straight with my life.
Mindfulness is defined as “a state of psychological freedom that occurs when attention remains quiet and limber, without attachment to any particular point of view” (Martin 1997, p. 291). A mindful approach can be used to resolve conflict and also can provide a better solution to this conflict situation. Mindfulness of the manager has a direct impact on his employees. It will improve the social relationships, communication, and empathy toward the co-workers. However, the absence of mindfulness will affect the effectiveness of the organization and its goals. High standard of customer service, reduced workplace tensions, improved effort for targets achievement, better communication and team relations are the
The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives to attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better than anyone else, and I won’t let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I want to do, to succeed in.
Let us look a little more toward the good side of college. Like I stated before, it gets you good education for your future job, and can make you a good deal of new friends too. With so many people in college, it's almost impossible to find a person you aren't compatible with. You can make many good friends in college, some could even be better friendships then the ones you had back home.
College is not all about the studying, and classes, it is the life outside of classes, the dorm life. Dorm life is not all that bad once the college student gets use to the small room and having to share it with one to two other peers. Most likely the good times out weigh the bad by a lot.
Most students who are about to go to college, are faced with the problem of either staying at home or living in the dormitory. Some students have wonderful experiences in the dorm, and others have absolutely opposing opinions about dorm life. The question that every college student must answer: should you live on-campus or at home? Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, so it is crucial for you to weigh your choices before you make a final decision. In my opinion, living at home is a lot better than living in the dormitory, however, both have their pros and cons in each case. The choice of living at home and living in the dorm depends solely on the particular individual. I will now go ahead to compare and contrast the positives and negatives of living at home and in the dormitory.
