Everyone knows what a ban is used for. Whether for good reasons or bad, bans are meant to stop a group of people or civilization from doing something that is not liked by another. Various bans throughout human existence has included bans on books, arts, even religions. But the ban I would like to discuss is a bit more recent, and would have affected a lot of people if it would have stayed. In 2012, the New York City mayor by the name of Michael Bloomberg put in place a ban on sodas over sixteen ounces, hoping to reduce the obesity in New York City. There have been many, many court cases throughout the history of the United States. One important case that I believe to be important is the court case of Clinton v. New York. This case involves more than just President Bill Clinton, the City of New York; it involved Snake River Farmers’ as well. This case mostly resolves around the president’s power of the line item veto. In 1996 President Bill Clinton signed the Line Item Veto Act into law. This would allow the president to get rid of a part of a bill and not disapprove the entire bill. The first time that President Clinton used this power he used it to refine the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, he got rid of a part of the bill that waived the Federal Governments statutory right to get back or receive $2.6 billion in taxes that were levied by the City of New York. President Clinton also line item vetoed a section of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 this wouldn’t allow certain food processors and refiners to sell their stock to farmers to defer the recognition of capital gains. This is when the Snake River Farmers’ and City of New York went after Clinton for doing so this is where the case of Clinton v. The City of New York originated from. In this case there were constitutional issues that were raised, major arguments presented, and the final ruling from the Supreme Court.

Now with the New York state safe act of the seven round clips law you will hear the noise a lot sooner than before. The seven round clips should be unconstitutional that New York State is putting into law. I don't think we should be regulated on the number of rounds we can put in a clip.

Censorship in the schools is the most widespread and exposed place for book banning. Do administrators and school boards have the right to ban books? Pico in New York, the Supreme Court gave the school board broad discretion to frame curriculum and teach civic and moral values. This case resulted in the school board removing ten books from the school library for being "anti-american, anti-christian, anti-semitic, and just plain filthy." Another case involving book banning was Hazelwood School District V. Kuhlmeier. In this case the Supreme Court again gave school officials the broad discretion to control curriculum. This time the court left open the question if this affects the school libraries. In Olathe, Kansas, the district's superintendent made the decision to remove all copies of Nancy Gardner's Annie On My Mind because of it imposing views for gay actions. Often times, it is banned for obscenities and is considered unsuited for the set age group, or any age group.
In May of 2012 Mayor Bloomberg announced his portion cap rule proposal (Renwick, 2013). This proposal would ban the sale of sweet and sugary beverages that are over sixteen ounces in size. This ban would affect movie theaters, restaurants, street vendors, and any other commercial entity that is regulated by the New York City health department (Yee, 2013). This proposal is commonly referred to as the New York City Soda Ban.
Book banning in the United States and anywhere else in the world I feel should be abolished. Books are published and written for a reason. The reason is to expand the mind to new things. Sure some books are better than others but there is no reason to challenge or ban books.

The obesity epidemic is the country's most serious health issue, When walking down the street notice half of all people you may come across are overweight. This is the reason obesity is now so known because of the way people look, and the weight they put on. Obesity is common and the government wants to ban certain liquids that people drink because of the weight they gain from them, however, I believe people should be able to drink as much as they want even if weight is gained. Book banning has a long history and has made both positive and negative impact on readers. People have been trying to stop books from being banned, but there are also people that are trying to ban books to protect their children. Many books have been challenged and even banned because of the “inappropriate” content the books contain such as profanity. Books have started to get censored since the 1500’s and has threatened many cultures. The people who ban and censor books think that they are protecting the readers from the information, but it is secluding the readers from getting more ideas. This creates a negative impact on the readers, especially high school students. People don’t realize that book censorship limits the way they view the world. Many books have been banned in American high schools because of political, religious, sexual, and social reasons. Book banners and parents should be more lenient in what the book expresses because it teaches readers, such as high school students, many lessons that will help them in life.
The government has tried and tried to take away our basic rights, hide stuff from us, and are now trying to ban junk food and fast food commercials? I think junk food commercials should not be banned because the government should not have the power the sensor what we watch. It is discrimination towards the companies that pay to put their product on television but no longer can because they are blamed for the nation’s problems. Finally it would take away jobs.
According to searched data, there were 57 permanent bans, 16 temporary bans and 23 other type of restrictions. Out of all these 100 policies used, 68 policies were passed and 32 did not pass. There were 5 policies out of these 68, which were later excluded and repealed by the courts. There were many reasons for repealing these policies but common reason was to protect aesthetics of the community.
