The Holy city is a song or hymn used for worship. This song is usually used by Jews, Christians, or Muslims. Although, they all have different beliefs they have their own backstory for it. “The Jewish bond to Jerusalem was never broken. For three millennia, Jerusalem has been the center of the Jewish faith, retaining its symbolic value throughout the generations” (Jerusalem). Therefore, the Jewish community uses it as a form of home, while the Christians use it has a sense of sanctuary. “For Christians, Jerusalem is the place where Jesus lived, preached, died, and was resurrected. This performance was live, therefore all of the crowds reactions and Charlotte’s performance was not acted out or tampered with. Their attire was a black tie event, but Charlotte Church wore a pink dress. I feel that not only was her singing impressive, but the orchestra was magnificent. They highlighted her vocal skills very well. The song that Charlotte Church sung “The Holy City” was a type of song form that lifts you up and puts you in a good or happy mood. The song form of this song is called sonata-allegro. This form is one that has three main sections, exposition, development, and recapitulation. I say that this song is a sonata-allegro because it tells a story. It leads up to the end where everything is upbeat and cheerful. The tempo is also allegro, because it has a joyful tone to it that makes the listener happy.The meter and dynamic levels of this song are both mixtures. The meter switches back and forth between duple and triple and even compound. The dynamic levels to the same thing, they do not remain in the soft piano stage the whole way through. “The Holy City” differs from the piano stage and the forte stage, going from soft to loud. Listening to this song all I could do was feel joy. I love listening to music that makes everyone happy and you can tell by the way they are singing and how everyone reacts.
