The holocaust was a horrible event that seems to terrible that it could never happen again, but that might not be the case. Hitler took crucial steps that overtime allowed him to be the dictator of Germany. He was able to brainwash most of Germany into thinking he was harmless and he was there to help the people. In a period of twelve years, Germany went from an emerging democracy to a dictatorship that eventually committed genocide. Hitler used methodic methods to gain control over Germany. Some of the measures Hitler took to become dictator was, the hyperinflation, propaganda and manipulation of children.

Hitler and used his right hand man Joseph Goebbels to spread as much propaganda as possible. “Goebbels left nothing to chance. He controlled every word heard over the radio or read in a newspaper or magazine.” The propaganda spread by the Nazis helped them rise to power. “The power to label ideas, events, groups, and individuals was central to Nazi efforts. Such labels made it clear who were the heroes and who were the enemies. Two of the biggest ways he did this was the Hitler Youth and the school systems. “In such groups, said Hitler, ‘These young people will learn nothing else but how to think German and act German... And they will never be free again, not in their whole lives.’” Since Hitler was able to brainwash the children from the beginning he was able to use them to promote his ideals. “The Nazi schools are no place for weaklings. All children must, of course, finish the primary school before they are ten; but after that schools are proving-grounds for the Party. Once the Germans lost the war, Hitler took that personally, and wanted revenge. Before World War II Hitler successfully implemented tactics through propaganda to secure his position as the next German Chancellor. Without using propaganda to increase his popularity Hitler would not have been able to gain the support he needed to gain control of Germany. He manipulated the German people by stating that Germany needs to become united to preserve their freedoms and to keep peace throughout the country. When Hitler was campaigning as a candidate for Chancellor he stated in one of his speeches, “Show tomorrow your firm national unity… Support with me and the Reich Chancellor the principle of equal rights and of peace with honor” (Larson, p. 175). By using a manipulative style of speaking to the public Hitler was able to present himself as one for the people, showing that he prioritized them above everything else. However, this was all a trick to increase Hitler’s popularity so he could eventually become dominant over all aspects of German life. The Nazi Regime achieved this through strategic implementations of propaganda. This desensitized the public into believing Hitler could help Germany in its time of economic and political struggle. The desperate Germans had no other choice than to vote for him. Now that Hitler had been elected, he began to target a specific group; Jews. The aftermath of the Holocaust left over six million Jews perished and the survivors in pain and anguish, each of their lives impacted forever by reliving the horrid events of this unspeakable tragedy every day. Adolf Hitler came to power on February 28, 1933 (Rossel). He rose to power using inflammatory speeches and inspiring hope for the defeated Germans. He constructed a system to empower the German people and allow them to thrive in the period after the Great Depression (Noakes). Using keen acumen and decisive moves, he was able to turn Germany into a war machine bent on the creation of an Aryan utopian society, at the cost of all inferior races, especially the Jews ("The Period between 1933 and 1939"). At this time Germany was a defeated country. They had recently had numerous humiliating defeats in WWI, and the Germans no longer had the pride they once had celebrated (Laurita).
