The Holocaust was a time of devastation and wrongdoing. It was also a time of cruelty and inhumanity. The Holocaust occurred over the course of twelve years during World War II. Although nearly six million Jews were killed, some survived and lived to tell their stories. After listening to a testimony from Ralph Fischer, a Holocaust survivor I have gained a new level of understanding to what happened in those few years of terror when the Nazi party was at power. On top of that I have learned that they are just like other people in many different ways. As a child, Ralph went to school, played with friends, and spent time with his family. Elie Wiesel, author of Night, expresses the personal account of Elizer, a Jewish teenager, who fought to stay alive during the holocaust, and shows the importance of witness accounts, the will to survive, and the remembrance of past historical events. Night encompasses the idea of “Literature of Witness” by simultaneously showing how millions of people were affected by the holocaust and how each person, principally Elizer, has their own personal story to tell to understand and remember that horrendous time.

But what all of them are going to say is that it was horrible that they don't want to talk and remember about it. How could six million people deserve to be treated so cruelly for nearly 4 years? Between the years 1941-1945, being Jewish was reason enough for them to be executed, never seeing their families again. Wiesel’s short story, Night, and the Academy Award-winning documentary, One Survivor Remembers, were very informative. As I’m a visual learner, I found Death Camps to be the most informative because of the graphicness of it, and the fact that it didn’t sugarcoat anything. Most pieces about the Holocaust leave out some of the cruelty to save the reader the overwhelming heartache for all the people that had to go through this. The documentary, Death Camps, is the most reliable because of the raw footage presented in the documentary.
A story of a young boy and his father as they are stolen from their home in Transylvania and taken through the most brutal event in human history describes the setting. This boy not only survived the tragedy, but went on to produce literature, in order to better educate society on the truth of the Holocaust. There were many aspects in World War two, but the Holocaust is likely the most famous to date. A particular interest is shown for the Holocaust simply because of the unbelievable amount of inhumanity that was exhibited.
