Japan is a fascinating and multifaceted culture; as in one hand it is rich and deep in tradition dating back thousands of years like the heritage of ancient Samurai warrior which can be seen in great castle, a carefully planned garden or a beautifully preserved samurai residences. One of the popular street fashions is called Decora fashion a subculture that originated in Harajuku, Japan in the late 1990s with a distinct fashion style, now the new generation are pushing the limits even further. Decora fashion has become a subculture as it is a group of people within a culture that differentiates itself from the larger culture to which it belongs because Decora fashion is like fun fashion where it is against the main stream of things as Japan has a strict uniform culture where there are uniform for school, uniform for work and pretty must uniform for everything. Decora is not elegant but a type of fashion which is like “boom to your face” because of all the bright colours, crazy accessories and clashing prints because of that Decora fashion is more common among females rather than males in Japan.
The word decora is from the word ‘decorative’, where in Japanese meaning the followers uses a lot of accessories like hair clip, ribbons and bows that are usually fun, flashy and fluffy. Decora style is also about experimenting with layers and colours to create a youthful look that best suit their personal preference, the general clothing that a typical Decora wear have bold patterns and prints.
