The Hero Of Craig Gilner: My Modern Day Hero

Hero’s are not in the most obvious places “Life can’t be cured, but it can be managed,” (Vizzini 447) was said by one of my favorite authors. He wrote a book called It's kind of a funny story, and the main character, Craig Gilner, is my modern day hero. Craig Gilner is a typical average fifteen-year-old boy. Well, if a typical fifteen-year-old boy goes to an Ivy League high school, feels depressed all the time, and is in a hospital being treated for depression, then yes Craig Gilner is the poster child for typical fifteen-year-old boys. Craig did not have a hard life, but he knew from a young age that something was not right. He is courageous because although he is depressed, he stills gets up every day and does his routine. When he is depressed, he called the suicide hotline instead of making the choice to end his life. He makes the right choice to go to a hospital to get the help he needs even though he will not be able to go to the school he worked so hard to get into. He had the courage to get through everyday, hang out with his friends, go to school, and take bike rides. Craig shows courage in many of his decisions which is an important trait and what makes him my modern day hero. Craig Gilner is my modern day hero because he also shows generosity. Craig is generous because when he meets Bobby, the person who has been in the hospital the longest. Bobby talks about wanting to do things for himself and get a job so he can get out of there. Bobby is sweet, but does not want people’s hopes to be lifted up because he thinks he will let them down. Bobby is very caring of others and wants everyone to be happy. Craig and Bobby end up having a close relationship and Craig gives Bobby his dad’s clothes to go on an interview. Craig is my modern day hero because he is a generous
