The Hazardous Holocaust The Holocaust is one of the most horrific events that has ever went down in history. Many people have spoken about their experiences inside the concentration camps. One survivor, Elie Wiesel, wrote a book on all the cruelty he suffered throughout his time in the camp . Public records have been used to prove the terrible crimes committed by the Germans and Nazis. In World War II, the Soviets had to liberate the victims from concentration camps. The history of the Holocaust is tragic and can be proven by testimonies from survivors, public records, and the liberation of the camps through the war. Kurt Franz was the commander of the Ukrainian guards in Treblinka (Treblinka: Testimonies). SS Captain Theodor van Eupen was the leader of Treblinka before the uprising in 1943 (Treblinka). After an uprising forced out the former captain, Franz had to run the camp, and he did not send a single person to the gas chambers (Treblinka: Testimonies). The Nazis began to spread quickly and began capturing prisoners-of-war (Nazi). Germany began to invade Poland which made Britain and France decide on declaring war against Hitler (World). The number of captured soldiers increased so rapidly that new camps were built, but the prisoners did not last very long as they were either shot or sent to be gassed (Nazi). Although many soldiers were captured, the troops kept moving across Europe and began liberating the victims of the Nazis (Liberation). The Nazis knew the Soviets were coming for them and began burning their camps to eliminate any evidence of murders, but many gas chambers were left standing (Liberation). The Soviets found all the proof and evidence they needed from men and women’s clothing along with pounds upon pounds of human hair from prisoners in Auschwitz, one of the largest killing centers (Liberation). British and American forces started liberating concentration camps with the help of prisoner resistance leading to the surrender of Germany (World).
