In the story, The Handmaid’s Tale, there were many important events that occurred. To being with, the novel first started off by describing what kind of environment the characters were living in and what activities they were allowed to do and not do. The setting was basically a very strict, quiet, and semi-dark dormitory where they kept Handmaids and etc. Handmaids were a very crucial character in this novel because without them, there wouldn’t have been any children around because most of the women in Gilead were infertile. Moreover, the people who were kept in the dormitory, the Red Center, were surrounded by a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire that were guarded by the Angels. Throughout the story, the top status in Gilead were the Commanders and their wives. Everyone in Gilead had their own part in serving them; the handmaids would do the grocery shopping, the Marthas would do household things, the guards would either wash cars or follow the wives or Commander’s orders, and the unwomen would do everything else that was needed. With this being said, two of the Handmaids: Offred and Ofglen went grocery shopping and after they were done, they made a visit to the Wall. At the Wall, Offred looked very anxious and worried because she didn’t want to find their husband before the time of Gilead, dead. Offred’s whole family was separated ever since she was taken to the Red Center; however, Offred always think about them and hopes that they’re okay. Furthermore, the night time is usually free time for the servants so they could do whatever they wanted. Moira is Offred’s best friend and is an unwomen because she tried to escape the Red Center but got caught by the Eyes. She discovered a message that she thinks is written in Latin and soon after that, she found a pillow that had the words, “faith,” on it. As the story progresses through the chapters, Offred was taken to the doctor. Going to the doctors is an activity that happens once a month. It was to get some tests done such as urine, hormones, cancer smear, blood and etc. After the tests were done and Offred was redressing, the doctor tried to make a move on her and told her that the Commanders were too old to make her pregnant so she should just take him up on his offer because in Gilead, there are only women who are fruitful and women who are barren, that was the law. Offred tried to kindly reject his offer by saying that it was too dangerous; however, deep in her mind, she was terrified. Lastly, Offred talked about the time when her daughter was stolen and the last time that she saw her. Offred’s daughter was first stolen out of a supermarket cart because a strange lady said she was her baby. Moreover, Offred’s daughter was 5 years old when she last saw her and it has been 3 years since then so she must be 8 years old by
