The Green Party A Green party is a political party based on principles of green politics. Green parties tend to revolve around social injustice, non-violence, and foundations of world peace. These political parties have not been around long but have made an impact in our political system. Green parties were founded in 2001 and are present in 91 countries around the world.The leader of the Green party in the United States as of 2012 is Jill Stein. The Green party is an organized political party in most states across the US. It has taken this political party thirty years to successfully form. Families and children, women's rights, foreign policy, and political reform are the many issues this party addresses in their democracy platform. Throughout their social justice section they discuss civil rights,equal rights,environmental justice,welfare, and education and the arts. Ecological sustainability revolves around their concern of climate change, energy, nuclear issues and transportation. Ecological economics, economic health, livable income, and fair taxation is of the many subgroups apart of the Green party’s Economic justice section in their platform. Elected officials from other parties began to join the “Greens.”The larger the city seems to be the more Green party’s are winning. The green party has run presidential candidates in 1996, 2000,2004, 2008, and lastly 2012. In many state legislative races, Greens provide the only opposition to the incumbent.The number of greens in office has increased significantly since 1996. Since 1996 the number of Greens in office has almost doubled. In November of 1996 after the general election, there were 43 Greens holding elected office in 12 states and in 1998 there were 63 holding office in 15 states. There are currently 79 greens holding office in 19 states. These statistics prove that though the Green Party is just a political party it is still a very influential key to our political
