The greatest threat to civilisation if humanity itself. ‘Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind, John F. Kennedy” Humanity is the first and foremost reason for current day threats towards civilisation. This is seen through Humanity’s Acts of Evil and the Desire of Power and Self-Importance in Civilisation. During this speech I will be referencing the play Lord of the Flies and some real-world issues. Without a doubt humanity itself is civilisations greatest threat. “Have you ever been afraid to stay home alone because you have feared that you would be robbed by a burglar?” Mankind’s acts of evil are a hazard to the survival of civilisation. Acts of evil are committed by people for many reasons such as to gain dominance over another person and many other reasons such as racism and religion, consequently leading to a person either being physically or mentally harmed. These acts of evil were evident in Lord of the flies when Jack punched and slapped Piggy, stealing his glasses and ridiculing him, this is seen on page 96 when Piggy says ‘Ralph. They took my glasses. Why did they want to go and do that?’. This incident lead to the increasing levels of violence amongst the group which lead to more acts of evil being committed. Don’t please! Don’t push me! Don’t’. This event affected the groups, bringing anger and sadness to Ralphs group, and increasing the levels of savagery amongst Jack’s group. This has been seen in society through the sickening acts committed by radical groups such as ISIS who kill innocent people so they can strike fear into the innocent. Without regarding these acts of evil society would be at risk of breaking down completely. This clearly proves that acts of evil will lead to the end of civilisation
