The article talks about the underlying problems for college students. They can’t fully focus on classes. 1 in 4 students have children coming into college life. Half of the college students are financially independent from their parents. Another 2 out 3 students are coming straight out of high school. Teachers are clueless about the needs of students when it comes to college. There are various underlying personal problems that can affect students going to college. For some it may be having children and having to work to pay for college and their children.
There was a dean of college who was one of the many teachers who were clueless about the struggles that students faced. He left the job as a dean and started his own school and called it “The Great Colleges for the New Majority.” He believes to push students to follow their aspirations but have them be able to have the work skills more places are looking to hire in their major. …show more content…

Some students that are returning or just starting a couple years after high school do have many scenarios to why. There were some adults that did have jobs but they felt like they didn’t get the respect that they deserved. They felt that the reason they weren’t getting the respect they deserved was because they didn’t have that piece of paper saying that they graduated college and got whatever degree.
The Great Colleges For the New Majority is a self-selected network of adult-serving bachelor's programs. They have graduation rates of 80 percent or more. Their curricula have a huge selection of structures, but all of them offer an education that is transformative, that enables students to lay claim to their own lives and define their own journey.
