Uros Benacek Psychology of Adolescence 10-10-2014 The Graduate When we say sentence: “movie about adolescence” we picture modern American teenage comedies that are bad, really bad. There are some exceptions such as Superbad or Kick ass which were able to bring a little originality back. Even this genre has its memorable classics. One of them is The Graduate. It’s about an innocent and confused young man who is exploited, misdirected, seduced and betrayed by a corrupt, older generation was well understood by audience and seized the spirit of the times. We follow the fate of a young Ben Braddock, who had just finished school and returned home to his parents. Everyone around him is asking what his plans for the future and career goals are. After a while, Mrs. Robinson makes an appearance, an attractive friend of the family who is trying to seduce Ben. He is trying to resist for a moment, but in the end he falls for older women and regularly meets with her. He ceases to be the perfect son of his parents and is slowly changing into a rebel. The problem occurs when he falls in love with Mrs. Robinson’s daughter Elaine. After confessing of the affair to Elaine, Ben finds himself heartbroken. Several weeks pass by and Ben finds out that Elaine is going to merry a perfect American Gentleman. At that moment Ben throws away all of his modesty and obedience and rushes into the church and runs away with Elaine. The ending scene shows them in the back seat of a bus, staring at each other victoriously. After a short while their victorious faces fade and disappear. They are staring in front of them, both of them silent. The ending leave people wondering if they really love each other and what will future bring to
