The Islamic Golden Age began in the 7th century and lasted until the end of the 13th century. There were two Islamic Golden Ages. The first Golden Age lasts about two centuries from the 7th century to the 9th century. In this Golden Age, society is being integrated in political, social, and moral dimensions of Islam (Lapidus 14). The second Golden Age lasts about five centuries from the 9th century to the 14th century. During the second Golden Age the state and religious institutions were separate, leaving the political and religious elites divided (Lapidus 13). Muhammad, not an immense influence starting out, had strong political and economic influence during early Islam, because not only was he a prophet but the political leader of southern Arabia. Muhammad was born after the death of his dad in 570ce (Gabriel 53). He was born in the town of Mecca, which at the time, followed mostly a polytheistic religion (Haleem x). At the young age of six years old Muhammad’s mom passed. Orphaned at this age and his grandfather took care of him till he died as well, two years later. Finally, at the age of eight years old, his uncle took guardianship of Muhammad. Muhammad, being orphaned, had no one to educate him, so he lived an illiterate but very …show more content…

The Meccan’s took the war to Muhammad at Medina (Gabriel 110). Muhammad was torn on staying in Medina and letting the Meccans come in and fight them that way or to go out to the open plain where they are greatly outnumbered and fight them there. He chose to go to the open field and by the time it took him to get his armor and come back the crowd changed their minds and wanted to stay inside of Medina instead of leaving, but Muhammad was set in his way and told them to assemble (Gabriel 111-113).
