Geography Club begins with the novels protagonist Russell Middlebrow scouring an internet chat room established for homosexual individual’s seeking romantic partners. Middlebrow insists that all meetings with these chatroom strangers to be discreet. Middlebrow does not desire his sexuality as a homosexual male to be wide spread knowledge throughout his high school. On the way to meet a boy that calls himself 72Finns on the chatroom Middlebrow stumbles upon a popular boy from his high school. After a brief discussion the popular boy reveals that he’s 72Finns from the chatroom, and is suppressed to meet another gay male from his high school. At first the boy’s are confused by the Geography Clubs name. Min reveal that she named the club The Geography club since people typical are not interested in geography. Furthermore Mel explains that she established this club as a secret LGBT support group. Not long after going The Geography Club, Middlebrow joins the football team to establish an alibi for the long hours he and Kevin spend with one-another. After a date at the bowling alley, Trish unsuccessfully attempts to have sex with Middlebrow, although he tells her that he wants his first time to be special. When Middlebrow starts in in his first football game he becomes the schools champion when he schools the game winning touchdown. During dinner with Middlebrow, Kevin’s father reveals that his gay uncle will be coming to his home with his boyfriend within the next week. Kevin’s father is accepting of his uncle’s homosexual status, which provides comfort for the two boys when Kevin tell his father about his relationship with Middlebrow.
