The Gallic Wars - Book 7 Once Caesar arrived in Italy he hears that the senate called a draft. Caesar enrolls Cisalpine Gaul soldiers. Meanwhile natives are able to spread rumors in order to spark a rebellion against the Romans. The native chiefs have a meeting to organize the rebellion. Their main priority is to make sure that Caesar isn’t able to join his army. The Carnutes start the first initial attack and news of the rebellion spreads very fast. Many miles away some soldiers are gathered and leave right away. Vercingetorix is able to assemble a bigger pod of troops and part of them head off to Ruteni and the other part to Bituriges. Caesar has to quickly deal with political conflicts with the Aedui but then he gathers more supplies from them and has Labienus go out against the Parisii and Senones and he goes after the Arverni. Both armies move the same direction with just the river as separation. Two of Caesar’s legions are able to cross the river after rebuilding a bridge. Caesar reaches Gergovia and Vercingetorix stays near another town. Convictolitavis, chief magistrate of the Aedui, decides to go against Caesar. They supply the chiefs of the Aedui with lies to get them on their side. Eporedorix informs Caesar about Litaviccus’s plans about the Aeduans. Caesar heads out to show the chiefs that the others have lied and the Aeduan chiefs beg for mercy and Caesar gives it to them. Fabius then reports to Caesar that the camp has been attacked. Meanwhile, the Aeduans that haven’t heard of the deceit start killing many Romans. A messenger then tells them that Caesar has control of their army and they flee. The Aeduans try to clear themselves but are afraid their crimes are too big. Caesar said that he didn’t want to punish the commoners for their ignorance. Caesar notices that the enemy has a weakness in their defense so he baits the enemy and
