The five factions in Divergent’s serve as values that citizen can aspire to achieve in their fullest. The fearless are drawn to Dauntless, the intelligent to Erudite, the kind to Amity, the honest to Candor, and the selfless to Abnegation. I do not think that only these factions represent every basic personality type, nor fulfill all of people’s basic needs. To fill in the gaps, I would create factions for the selfish and manipulative, among others. People from the past wanted to eradicate all the parts of the human personality that put the world in disarray. I do not think the factions are working toward a better world as they say they are, because if you remove parts of the human personality, you force people to conform, and forcing people to conform always eventually ends in a violent revolution. It seems that the society has done a good job of making conforming citizens that obey and do as they are told. The society does not seem to know how to deal with those who do not conform or those that do not conform well enough. I feel that I would be born in Abnegation because both my parents are selfless in that they have public service jobs where they save people’s lives. At my choosing ceremony, I would chose Erudite because I value Intelligence above …show more content…

I think that Tris did make the right faction choice because had she chosen another faction she could have never reached her full potential. The difference between being fearless and learning to control your fears are that to be fearless you do not have to even have the fear nor know how to handle it, but in controlling your fears you have to know and overcome your fears in order to face them. I do not believe anyone can be truly fearless. When Tris says that half of bravery is perspective, she is referring to how to one person an act can seem like bravery and to another it can seem like cowardice, it all depends on how you look at the
