Why do we enjoy watching shows like NCIS and CSI when someone is constantly being killed, whether it be multiple murders or a single murder. But it is those grueling multiple murders that attract not only my interest but millions around the world. NCIS is the second most watched show in the United States, this show frequently involves serial killers in their plots. Jeffrey Dahmer one of the most famous serial killers ever known not only killed his victims but also ate them. He did not kill anyone famous but because he did something so taboo he had intrigued people across the entire country. 1 being a “power junkie” meaning they always feel the need to be more powerful than anyone around them. Daily Mail also states that even when the killers have been caught they will leave out important information to still maintain that sense of power. The second characteristic is a “manipulator” this is when people try and receive personal gain through other people 's expense. I have a tendency to be a manipulator but when it comes to serial killers they deceive and trick people into believing they are a good person or that coming into their house is safe. Third key point of serial killers is “an egoistical bragger” for them killing is an accomplishment just like me when I win a tennis match I like to tell others about it. When serial killers do get caught they will even brag to law enforcement and sometimes the judge. The fourth characteristic which is an important one is “a superficial charmer” this is when they use other people 's emotions and vulnerability to convince them to do something they would not usually do. Murder in general has one of highest solve rates of all crimes. It is because of the priority that society has placed on this crime. Tremendous resources and multiple investigators are assigned to each crime of this type. Therefore, more are solved (Perry).
Business insider also stated that since there are only approximately 10% of female serial killers there are just fewer of them out there. Why are there more males than females in the serial killer world? According to Jim Fallon a neuroscientist he says that there is a gene called MAO-A that cause major violence and that gene can only be passed on from their mother so that means only on the X chromosome (Fallon). This is believed to be the reason why males become serial killers more often than females because females “can get one X from the father, one X from the mother, it 's kind of diluted out. But for a male, he can only get the X chromosome from his mother” (Fallon).
