I am defined by my Filipino heritage. This heritage had dictated most of my life, but I lived life and it made me who I am. Many of the people in my life are connected by our shared heritage. Filipinos tend to be very close to one another other, no matter where they are. This sense of community is dubbed ‘Pinoy Pride.’ My family is part of the Filipino American Tennis & Golf Association, which gave me most of my extended family and life-long friends as well as my habits and much of my beliefs. My heritage has taught me to be kind, tolerant and has helped me to become a more disciplined and dedicated person. The Filipino American Tennis & Golf Association was established by my parents and close friends, all hailing from the Philippines. It has been running strong for around thirty years. I started tennis at the age of five, continuing a family tradition. Initially I hated tennis, but I transitioned to loving it. It has been running strong for around thirty years. I started tennis at the age of five, continuing a family tradition. Initially I hated tennis, but I transitioned to loving it. He took us out for tennis a few times every week to play with other families in the community. We would spend many hours on the courts, sometimes from the dawn of the sun to the rise of the moon, sometimes until way after. Tennis has been with me my entire life, from age seven, because I had stopped for two years, continuing because of the influence of the Fil-Am community and my family. I spent many of my hours on the tennis court playing for exercise, training for Mainland, and spending time with other Filipinos. I never got to the level of tennis any of my brothers were at during their high school days, but I am still proud to have played for the same
