The Fault in Our Stars by William Shakespeare

Hazel Grace is the most witty, insightful and irreverent Human I have ever come across in a book. But, she isn't your normal sixteen year old girl. Hazel has Cancer, and Hazel herself opens the book with the fact that Cancer doesn't define you, "Hazel has never been anything but Terminal." And she decides to live her life rarely leaving her house, spending a lot of time in bed, reading the same book over and over and devotes quite a bit of her abundant free time to thinking about death. A true, eye-rolling teenager. In her Mums attempt to encourage her to leave the house and peel her away from the Americas Next Top Model episodes, she signs her up for Cancer Kid support group, where Hazel Grace comes across a equally witty, gorgeous human, named Augustus Waters. Augustus Waters is one of the reasons why I have high-expectations for boys. And I knew as soon as Hazel turned around after grabbing a cookie and pouring lemonade into a Dixie cup to find a boy staring at her, that this was her new love interest. Augustus has a rare form of bone Cancer in his leg. Augustus was a charming, confident character that was full of wit, to me he was fascinating. And although Augustus and Hazel seemed almost perfect for each other, there was one thing I found that separated them. Hazel was afraid deep down to me, she's cautious and she doesn't want to attach herself to people because she thinks that she will die. Augustus however, is a kid who wants to make things happen, he doesn't waste time when he notices the beautiful Hazel Grace, I mean, he didn't stop staring at her during the Cancer Kid support group session until he caught her undivided attention, a steamy staring contest which began their relationship. And after a conversation at the b... ... middle of paper ... ... I loved it. Augustus didn't let Cancer hold Hazel back, and It never let it hold him back either. I don't think Hazel expected Augustus's death anymore than I did, I think she always believed that it would be her, but Augustus helped her push this factor to the back of her mind. Overall, 'The Fault in our Stars' has taught me many valuable life lessons, and I applaud John Green for making me feel the most emotions ive ever felt all at once. I think all together, this whole book taught me to be grateful for my health, and to not be afraid to embrace the fact that I am alive and healthy and that when I am ever held back by horrible things that I should never let them get to me. That life is an uphill battle, but even the worst of things, like Cancer for example, should never define you, or stop you from being anything less than happy, thanks to Gus' and Hazel Grace.
