The Exodus from Egypt The book of Exodus is a story about God’s people, the Israelites, and their journey with God. God picked the Israelites randomly and he used his love for the Israelites to help them out of slavery in Egypt. God used the ten plagues to rescue his chosen people, the Israelites, from the chaotic times in Egypt. God shows his love for the Israelites in many ways on their journey to the promised land, especially by parting the Red Sea to show how mighty he is over the Egyptians. God helped the Israelites escape from captivity in Egypt, by helping them cross the Red Sea after the ten plagues pushed Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. When the Israelites were safe on the other side, the water engulfed Pharaoh and his men after Moses moved his arms over the water to close it .(Ex. 14:23-28). This was the foreshadowing of what Pharaoh had done to Israelite newborns in Egypt. Pharaoh told his men to drown the newborns and God used Pharaoh’s wicked plan to go against him. When God lead the Israelites to the parting of the Red Sea, it showed that God had killed the Israelites false gods they worshiped, and took them from the land of death. God took the false gods as this was the result of the plagues. The parting of the sea was a targeted attack on Canaanite myths. It attacked the Canaanite god of creation and God won the battle in separating the sea.
The Exodus is the story of how God gets his redemption against Egypt. It’s a story of God showing his power over the weak Egyptian gods and the beginning of God’s people. Exodus tells about God guiding his future people who were trapped in slavery and led safely through the Red Sea. The Exodus is the first step in leading the Israelites into the Promise Land far off in the land with God by their side.
