The Effect of Mass Migration on Greece and Rome The fall of the Roman Empire was a mixture of internal and external factors that slowly lead to the complete decay of the cities; Rome and Constantinople. Early explanations blame the decline on Mass Migration. Hundreds of thousands of people left their settlements and set out to find new homes. The fact that such a mass migration took place while the Romans were still in power, was seen as the leading cause for the fall. The Romans were simply overtaken by the massive overflow of inhabitants. However true this cause may be, moderns thinkers have found many other contributing factors that lead to Rome’s complete demise. With large amounts of people came disease. Plagues came from the east swept across Europe, killing a large portion of Rome’s population. In addition to this, Rome’s people became less unified. There was no more trust or dignity left in Rome due to such horrible emperors such as Caligula, Nero and Commodus, to name a few. By Rome’s end, there were really no good rulers left. Roman leaders became corrupt and only sought power for themselves. Almost every military commander secretly had his eye on the throne and was ready to overthrow the emperor and take power himself. The armies spent more time fighting each other than battling enemies. But despite these facts, the people of Rome became increasingly more civilized and educated. The major drawback to this was that civilized people were not as good on the battlefields as the former barbarians were. But the barbarians had become obsolete; they too had become educated and were living like the Roman’s did. Therefore, the empire’s security suffered greatly. Rome became vulnerable to its enemies. To this catalogue of troubles one needs also to add economic problems. Rome was spending well outside of its means. Rome and Constantinople were giving free food rations to the increasing number of poor and sick people. They were also using gold to buy exotic spices, silk and other overseas luxuries that the struggling upper class desired.
The progression of people into and within the United States has had an essential impact on the nation, both intentionally and unintentionally. Progressions such as The Great Migration and the Second Great Migration are examples of movements that impacted the United States greatly. During these movements, African Americans migrated to flee racism and prejudice in the South, as well as to inquire jobs in industrial cities. They were unable to escape racism, but they were able to infuse their culture into American society. During the twentieth century, economic and political problems led to movements such as The Great Migration and The Second Great Migration which impacted the United States significantly.
...eat. Every decision that Rome made had a great affect on the city itself and the rest of the world. Many foolish emperors weakened the city and eventually cause the many aspects of life to crumble. The social issues were that no one took interest into Public affairs. The Political issues were that because no one took any public interest in government jobs, because there were not looked at as something that was good. The Economic issues were that they had poor harvest. Food was scarce people needed food so they went after it. The Germanic tribes started taking over the western half of the empire.
Migration is the spread of human beings from one location to another in hopes of staying there permanently. North America is a product of Migration being that the entire population once migrated here from other countries or continents. With this being said, all of the humans walking on North American soil has ancestors from another place on earth. Push and pull factors are the two different reasons for motivating a person(s) relocation, which is what drove many people to North America. Push factors are are the motivation to move people away from a location and pull factors are those that attract them to the new location. Globalization is a process that involves the mixing of people, corporations and governments of separate nations. Globalization is directly connected to migration because it is actually the beginning of the mixture of culture and religions many years ago.
Warmth of Other suns was wonderful, with great stories of Americans history with spans of long migration of African Americans who take off from the south to northern and western cities. Black citizens was in hunt of a more comfortable and healthier lifestyle from the south were African Americans was being treated awful. From 1916 to 1970, the Great Migration transformed America with millions of African Americans moving locations across the United States with a huge influence on public life, economic, political and social challenges. A large reason why Rome fell was because its population began to drop significantly which then led to many economic issues. A decline in population meant that
The Great Migration was a time where more then 6 million African Americans migrated North of the United States during 1910-1920. The Northern Parts of the United States, where African Americans mainly moved to was Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and Cleveland. ...on military expansion as it put strain on the Roman government as it cost them many economic and military casualties as they were losing a load of money hiring soldiers to invade and often replace them when they died without gaining from the lands they conquered. In my opinion, this is the major factor pertaining to the collapse of the Roman Empire. The political corruption allowed the Praetorian Guard to be above the law and announce whoever they wanted as Emperor regardless of whether they were capable of the task. The dependence on slave labour caused high unemployment and the stagnation of technology for the last 400 years of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire is said to have completely collapsed when the German barbarians overthrew the last Emperor, Romulus Augustus in 476 and introduced a more democratic form of government which was very short-lived.
While the western half of the divided Roman Empire collapsed from foreign invaders, the surviving eastern side thrived and excelled way longer in the city of Constantinople. Influenced by external Greek and Latin civilizations, the Eastern Roman Empire transformed all aspects of their culture including government structure. Once a new capital was established by Emperor Constantine I, the empire slowly gained power and flourished into a strong civilization overtime. The foreign effects of many countries have shaped the Byzantine Empire’s governing system pattern and consequently helped with further expansion at the cost of many revolts and rebellions.
Migration is not just about arrival, but also departure and circulation’ (Raghuram and Erel, 2014, p. 150). Explain how different sorts of evidence in DD102 have been used to support this claim.
The Great Migration “’The North has reached the point where it is ready to echo almost anything the South chooses to assert’” (Boyle 79). As the memory of the Civil War faded, Northern whites began to take more and more after the whites of the South. Migrating African-Americans found that the North didn’t really measure up to the promise land due to the rise of Jim Crow, which was aided by the Plessy v. Ferguson ruling as well as discrimination in the job and housing market.
The Great Migration was a huge rural movement that occur in the southern United States, it was the movement of 6 million blacks. It began in the earlier 1900 all the way the 1970. The 14 states the blacks were moving from were from the south. The main states were Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. The first big movement was between the 1910 and 1930s. There was around a little bit over 1.5 million people moving from rural areas to the industrial cities in the north.
One of the most common causes of the decline of an empire results from having weak military power and martial spirit. In order for an empire to be successful, that empire must present a strong will to fight or sacrifice property and life in order to defend its state. If an empire does not possess this characteristic, it often will quickly diminish. For example, the Roman Empire became successful because of the willingness of the males to defend the state. Shortly after, the males lost their willingness to defend and the empire had to recruit unreliable mercenaries to fight in war. Unlike the successful army of the past, these mercenaries did not have true loyalty to Rome. Because of constant warfare, the Romans had heavy military spending. The Roman Empire had become too large to control effortlessly. Families and soldiers in parts of the Roman Empire adopted local customs. The Roman Empire was made up not only of natives from the Italian peninsula, but it was also made up of barbarians from the conquered lands. The barbarians were very knowledgeable when it came to Roman warfare and military tactics. Corruption became widespread throughout the Em...
Ultimately, the Roman Republic’s downfall lay in its lack of major wars or other crises, which led to a void of honor and leadership. War united all of Rome’s people, and provided the challenge to its leaders to develop honor and leadership by their causes and actions. The lack of war allowed the Roman Republic to stagnate and become self-indulgent. By the end of the Punic Wars, which combined these elements, Rome was sure to fail. Without a common thread uniting its society, the Roman Republic unraveled because it had nothing left holding it together.
There are many people that emigrate from and immigrate in Athens. All of them have different reasons, push and pull factors, some of that I will explain in my essay.
